Just got back from town awhile ago and the price of gas here went up from $3.06 a gallon to $3.16! Talked with a few owners and they all said it will be raising higher real soon. Possibly $5.00 a gallon by summers end. I know the price of fuel is a major thing for everyone, but like I was telling a friend, it is much harder on us here in the country. It's a long way to drive to get anywhere and on top of that we have to pay taxes on food. To get to a real store where the prices are fair takes between 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Yes this it at highway speeds. I was invited to go on a rock-hound trip and had to cancel due to the fact it would cost me $60.00 just for gas to get there and back. I figure the money I saved by not going, (would love to have went), would help me buy equipment or more rocks. Anyway I just needed to see this in type and now maybe I will feel a bit better...... maybe not. lol Hmmm... already feel better! Thank goodness for rocks!

I feel your pain!
What I don,t get is that when they get that tanker to fill up their tanks, they pay a certain price - but the price keeps rising even without them getting more fuel - so they're screwing us - here gas is $1.30/litre - use to cost me about $18 to fill up the Tercel - now it's more than $30 to fill it up - it really sucks

I just brought my Suburban up to theoritical 700hp. It has a 454. I swapped out the cam, broached the heads to pick up the compression, and opened the chip for more torque. My mileage has gone up 4mpg. Next is to swap out the rear for an Eaton posi unit and go from 3:41 to 3:11. I should get 26mpg at around town speeds. I already swapped out the planetary in the transmission. All total, I have gone from 12mpg highway, to now 25mpg average highway/city. The compression increase is in antipication of the addition of ethanol to the fuel, already oxygenated. Old school works. I am rated to tow 40,000lbs, with 12,500 on the hitch.

Hey doc.... can I do that to my Kia? Now that sounds like a K-A ride!!! Tweetie: I know what you mean about the gas prices in Canada. Last trip I made with my father it cost him $30 here to fill up and up there it was $60! Unbelieveable! But we didn't complain then because we were in Marten River, Ontario and we love it!! Camping good... Gas bad! Harry

Harry : Be thankful you're not in Calif. Much higher state and local taxes on gas here. I'd be tickled pink at $3.16. usually between $3.39 and $3.60 here and we have friggin oil wells all over the place here *L*....mel

Hey Harry, I know how you feel, sort of. At least I don't have to pay taxes on food any more. That's something that used to really gripe me! I don't normally complain about fuel prices too much, since I tend to use more gasoline than I really need to, but come on now! We have created a society that NEEDS to drive more. If something doesn't give, I think that we are headed for a painful reckoning, me included.

ps I have to run 93 octane as well!

I have to drive for my new job. Sometimes it takes me so much in gas (I live in the country, too) that I barely make my expenses.

I'm already telling my 18 year old daughter that it used to only cost me $20.00 to fill up my '71 Mustang (back when it was $.99 per gallon). I remember my mom telling me it only cost them maybe $4.00 to fill up their tank back in the 50's/60's. Times have changed, but I guess it's all relative. Now it costs me $40.00 to fill up my Blazer. And Earthdog pays about $12.00 to fill up the bike. Even though I hate living in town, it's been nice for gas. Plus, if it does ever go up to $5.00 a gallon, I can always take the bus or get one of those scooter/moped things you see running around a lot lately!

I just wish we could find an alternative to gas that everyone could agree on and make use of. We have the technology....wow sounds like the Six Million Dollar Man!

yea Xena- Methanol is gonna crap out as the e-80 stuff won't work in a lot of cars- Bio-diesel is too specialized (no way the big 3 are gonna give up on gas) and Natural Gas vehicles are just delaying the inevitable- I really think Methane powered (derived from the breakdown of trash from landfills) and Electric Hybrids are the future- Guess there is some talk of a BIO fuel derived from Garbage that the germans are working on (I think it is ala Bio Diesel)

I met a guy who works at a Stanford think tank and he was telling me that we have the technology and the ability to do a complete changeover to an alternate fuel source right now, like tomorrow. However, if the USA stopped buying oil from the mideast, there would be such chaos over there that the entire region would become unstable and who knows what would happen. And he was talking about not only gasoline for our cars, but also energy for our homes.

What really ticks me off is the fact that Exxon posted their highest quarter ever, don't tell me they aren't gouging us. There's a whole lot of bs going on and a whole lot of padding pockets.

I live in NW Ohio, and recently read in the local paper there are plans for a new Ethanol plant near the Ohio/Indiana border which should be producing near fall of 2007. There are also 4 other plants in the works across the rest of the state. I really think this is a viable solution to some of the gas problems. There are many who are opposing it (because it happens to be in their backyards), and that is a shame because something needs to be done, especially with the price of gas soaring lately. The poor struggling farmers will have something to bank on for a change, as in this area, it is mostly farming operations. Everyone takes for granted that our lives depend so much on gas (it affects more than just our pockets at the pump) and somewhere, something has to give. I'm all for the research and implementation of better and cleaner fuels and fuel alternatives. The technology is there, its just a matter of putting it to practical use. Then maybe instead of all of us complaining about the prices, the oil companies will be complaining that no one is buying their gas anymore. Oh well... wishful thinking!?!
