I had a "fun" chore to do last night at 2 AM! Our newest addition to the family, Jargon, the male Jack Russell Terrier, decided to raid the pantry and somehow found an old bag of chocolate chips (about 1/4 full). Earthdog found the empty bag in the dining room and was hoping he pulled the empty bag out of the trash can. I said I don't think so! I said tonight he's sleeping in his kennel because who knows what his system will decide to do........well, at about 2 AM I hear him whimpering in the kennel. I decided to get up and let him out, thinking he needs to "go" outside and can't wait a couple of more hours. I didn't turn on the light so as not to wake up Earthdog. I picked him up and he felt wet. I carried him outside. When I returned, I made a pit stop in the bathroom and found the side I carried him was covered in let's say "recycled chocolate"! It came back up the way it went down! So here I am, at 2 AM, rinsing out his blanket and throwing it in the washer. Then I'm out standing in the backyard in the dark, in my T-shirt, washing out the kennel with the garden hose. And where is Earthdog this whole time??? After washing everything and changing my clothes, there he is, lying in bed, smoking a cigarette, asking me what's wrong, it stinks in here......... Man, oh, man! Oh, yeah, and now he's "my dog"..........his dog would never do that!

Take Heart, takilasunrise! My wife knows exactly how you feel! When we got our first dog (several years ago) she'd never had an "indoor" pet and didn't want one! Luckily, I didn't have to convince her-"Bessie" did it for me. That dog had more rights than I did! ;D

Oh my gosh Takila, we also have a male jack russel. I still don't know how he has lived to be 5 years old! This dog, that belongs to my son, has gotten into everything!! And I mean everything. and yes, I always had to clean up. When he makes a mess, he's my dog. I have a dog, she is a very small yorkie. She acts like a lady, not a dog. She wouldn't dream of making a mess , but no, Moms always have to clean up. Sucks sometimes. Luckly, Taz has mellowed out some. Thank God. If he continues to be good, he might make it to 6 LOL. Good luck with that jack!! Tonja

Lacy is a daddys dog. Jargon is a mamas dog. I bought him FOR Takila. He doesn't come to me when I call him, I walk into the living room and he runs. So I guess he IS Takila's dog.

Yeah, it's funny how it always becomes your dog or your kid when they misbehave! Earthdog decided to drive a couple of hours to buy Jargon........but it was for Lacy, not for me!

chocolate can be toxic to animals so you are very lucky. i think my cats are like characters from the far side. they hear my hubby coming and puke up a hairball or worse right in his path then they all sit and watch him run in circles gagging and hollering for me. i can just hear them "here he comes....watch this".

Ahhh pets, I don't have any, I've always had bad luck with them.... gave up a long time ago to keep them alive. 1. Dog: Blacky: went to the farm while we were out of town - ran away 2: Rabbit: Jeanot: Went camping and asked the neighbors to watch him - he wound himself around his post & died in the sun - came back to maggots - I guess the neighbor wasn't checking up on him at all - maggots take a while to get there - we were gone 3-4 days max. 3. Cat: Noirette: brought to the neighbors where I was being baby-sat there so she could play with their cats while I was at school - came back, cat had strangled itself in the hockey net in the shed. 4: cat - replacement for Noirette given by neighbor who's mother owns a farm: Bouboule: male had the cat spayed (newtered) - very shy cat, hid in the block of the car engine or something and one day mom forgot to check, cat got shaved by car fan & ran around the house streaking blood - was put down at the vets. 5: Cat - replacement for #3 & 4: Prince: went to neighbors mother's farm - got hit by a tornado, returned somehow alive but lethargic, died of something due to trauma. 6: Cat: Pasha: replacement again I think: had her declawed - we moved up North shortly after and had to bring her to the SPCA for adoption. 7: Dog: Muffin - had to leave her when we moved back from up North 8: Cat: Dusty - gave her away as we couldn't care for her anymore as allergies were developed - gave her to a happy home where she had lots of litters (one of 12 dead kittens) 9: FISH: Marlen & Nemo - One developed fin rot, kids stopped feeding them, left for 2 weeks on holidays, came back to alive fish (how'd that happen?) they were unfed for 2 weeks. Other developed fin rot & died 2 months later - kids were fighting over who would flush them down the toilet. Hubby is allergic to cats & we have no time for walking dogs so we told the kids that daddy was allergic to pet hair - so we opted not to have any - daughter asked if daddy was allergic to feathers….? Not gonna happen…
Now I'm not sure if my luck would change for keeping pets alive, since I'm older now, but I'm not willing to try - love dogs & cats, but can't find the time for them in so I choose not to try my luck again - so this is my way to save an animal...

Kim and Stefan are right, Takila, chocolate can be very toxic to small dogs, so be thankful it was just a big smelly mess (for you to clean) and not a chocolate covered ride to the vet at 2am with proportional bill and possibly a poor dead pet. i hope Jargon made a full recovery!
but you are right, for some reason it's the gals that get the messy clean up jobs. well, at least when it comes to puke and poo. blood and guts don't seem to phase the guys quite as much.

Speaking of puke & poo - a friend of mine has a son that would vomit on demand - mostly when he didn't get his way - you can tell you're a parent when you're sitting at the table eating, a kid vomits in his plate & you just keep eating.... or when you go out with girlfriends, talk about poopy messes while eating at the restaurant....

just cause they are better than us...just cause they love us...just cause they are mommas...just cause they are better at keeping peace.
but when it hits the fan...we will clean up everything in such a hurry that it dont matter what it is....at least this is true here.

Stefan, in my book, whoever sees it first...... I'm lucky that way, that Takila just happens to see it first. Dude stop making brownie points with the women, us men need to stick together. Or I'll send you another Victoria's Secret picture!

LMAO- NOOOOO I'm still having real bad dreams about that last one!!!! OK so in that thought I guess the dog puke I had to clean up yesterday was a bit of payback? Little shitter puked all over his crate- some kind of messy thick yellow stuff that smelled like the inside of a garbage can!!!! I asked my wife why she didn't clean it- up and she just smiled and said "oh you know I thought something smelled bad!"

Tweetiepy.....geez, sounds like you've had some bad luck with pets. They are a lot of work, but it's worth it for all the love they give back. I do know all about how bad chocolate is for dogs! Our other JRT ate the whole candy dish of those assorted mini Hershey bars one night when we left for dinner with a guest (the reason the candy dish even had anything in it, which is very rare!). We came back with the wrappers all over the floor. I pulled it up on the internet and read all about it. White chocolate and milk chocolate have lesser amounts of chocolate where semi-sweet and dark and baking chocolate has the most. I think Lacy might have had the "squirts" the next day, but that was it. Jargon only got sick that one time and that was it. I think what saved him was that it was a bag of cheap store brand milk chocolate chips that probably had very little real chocolate in them! Whoever sees it first rule? That's funny because I know that other members of the family will have passed by whatever mess and all of a sudden must become blind, but somehow they didn't step in it! Yeah, good one, E-dog. Just last night Jargon decided to pull out used femine products out of the trash and leave them in the hallway! Guess who had to pick them up? ?? Everybody just stared at it not knowing what they were at first. I know I wasn't the first to see it, but, OMG, everyone was too scared to pick it up! Husbands and teen-age daughters.........how will they ever make it in this world???

LMAO- Well KD as for the crate thing It is to keep him alive (he is a terror when left to his own demise-- and I would probably Kill him!) Takila- sounds like your family is suffuring from Messeious blindieous- a very rare and seriou condition where the victim suffers from a cute blindness (as in ain't that puppie "a cute one") THere is no known cure- sorry
