my child has had a spot on her face for over a year that we kept hoping was going to go away but it never did. today we traveled out of town to have it looked at and removed. it's really hard to watch someone stick needles in your child's face, see blood, quivering chin and tears....... but she was so brave. the doctor called it a nevus araneus (spider angioma). it upset the doctor so bad for her to cry that he gave her a super dose of suckers. i am relieved it is over! kim

he thinks he got it all but it will have to heal up for me to know. if he missed anything, i'd guess it may be the center spot because she was saying she could feel what he was doing even after 2 shots of novacane with him going all around it on the 2nd one. it was distressing him for her to be saying she felt it. they put gauge over her eyes during the shots and he pinched her face alot to keep her from focusing on the actual shot. i didn't have anyone to pinch me to keep me from hurting though. i had to have a nap when we got home. i really hope he got it all!

Did a quick e-search: www.emedicine.com/derm/topic293.htmIt sounds like a common and non-serious condition, so things should work out fine. I understand your daughter's hesistation at getting a needle -- I get uneasy even thinking about getting stuck. Come to think of it, I guess I'm due for some immunizations, bleah .

Hey Kim...I had a rather large one removed a little over a year ago. The doc told me that it could come back but it is not common for it to do so. I too could feel him cutting on me and it did hurt even with all the numbing he tried to do. On the bright side..it's all over. Morgan will not have to put up with kids making cruel comments or laughing at her. Give her a huggle for me and tell her I know what she went through and it is ok to cry when it hurts. Pho

What a bummer for a little kid. So sorry to hear that Kim. Medical procedures are scary enough for adults.

Kim
The hard part is over and Morgan sounds like she was a good trooper. We'll all say our prayers that it doesn't return and all Morgan will have of it is a memory.
By the way you sound like you were a good trooper also, not as good as Morgan but after all your the Mom and you hurt for yourself and your daughter.
My best to all,
Keep um rollin'

I know exactly how you feel! On more than one occasion, too! My eldest, who actually has a phobia of needles, had to have stitches put in the back of her head, have stitches removed from inside her mouth, and recently, a cyst removed from her eyelid, just to mention a few. They all involved Novacaine shots. When she had stitches put in the back of her head, I was newly pregnant with morning sickness, so when I was trying to comfort her, I had to keep sitting down do I wouldn't pass out. When they were doing her mouth, I swear, I was going to get sick and faint because of the pain she was exhibiting! It just breaks your heart when you see your child in pain! And then we have the added issue of her fainting from the sight of the needles! I don't know how she got her belly button pierced on her 18th birthday.

Ha! that's funny- how someone who has such a dread of needles will be willing to voluntarily go in for a piercing once they turn 18! I guess there are worse ways to mark one's passing into legal age....

Kim that has to be the worst thing to see, our children in pain. my oldest dislocated his thumb and it went down into his palm. i held him while the doctor put it back into place without Novocaine. i just got off the phone with my brother he was telling me that my mother was upset because we saw her crying today about being in pain from her knee replacement. I'm the baby at 38 and she is worried about us seeing her in pain. go figure

Well it sounds like she was a trooper about the whole ordeal and I'm glad it got taken care of and all is well. I just hate to see children have to go through any type of medical procedure. I think it hurts the adults as much as it hurts the children. Gee, where have I haerd that before?

i know the pain you were feeling...my son broke his arm in 3 places at 1 time in a fall(wrist, elbow and the big bone between}...i got to the school and his arm was in a towel...he wasnt crying but you could tell he was in a lot of pain...but on the ride to the hospital every bump in the road made him scream...then the people moving it around at the hospital trying to get x rays...more screaming...finally doc said enough is enough...he has to go to surgery anyway..we will get the x rays in there...i still cant figure out why he never shed a tear thru the whole thing just screamed like crazy when it got moved or bumped...i was so glad when they finally put him to sleep.
she will be over it in no time...and im sure you were hurting more than she was...not that she wasnt hurting...you know what i mean...ya i know your pain.

thanks all and pray when it is healed up it is gone. right now it looks as bad as before we went but they did say it would take 7 to 10 days to heal up. she was an unhappy camper the next morning as she was expecting it to be all clear and instead to her it looked like it was still there. she is going to be totally distressed if it's not gone. me too.
