Hey Ron??? Is it on a vine or not? Sweetpeas are a vining plant (climber), that doesn't look like it's on a vine.

Definetly not a sweet pea. Looks nice, what ever it is.

It's a sweet pea, alright. Have lots of them on my hill going down to the beach. They vine along the gound and are so pretty. They are perenniels and will come back each year.
Enjoy,
CQ

Sorry folks, if you take a good look at the leaves, you'll see they look nothing like the typical Sweet pea leaves. So unless this is a variety only grown in the upper mid west, it is not a sweet pea.

Sorry Ed, Retired recently from close to 30 years at the Agricultural dept as a senior biologist. Many types of Lathyrus or sweet pea. Flowers and those stems with the thin keels sticking out are definative here. Plants are prostrate as well as viney Since it's probably an escape, it's probably reverted back to one it's heirloom genotypes that you're not familiar with. Top it off, I've got a very simlar type type growing in my front yard right now.....mel

Yup, I've got a big, viney sweet pea just like that--huge thing. You can't kill it. It comes back every year--with a vengence! It covers a birdhouse on a pole, and the birds love it--so it gets to stay.

I have some just like it - it's actually a perrennial sweet pea. I have them vining up a couple of ladders - takes some convincing and some green netting, but they're awesome! They definitely take over in the right climate. I love them - I could never get them to grow in North Dakota, but they love it here.
