We decided to get a dog for our son Christian who is 3. My wifes cousin came across a Beagle dog out in the country and actually hit it with her car as it tried to cross the road. She jumped out and grabbed it up and took it to the nearest vet to have it checked out, and it turned out the dog was just fine. There was no collar or any kind of id as to its owners, and no one came to claim it after ads in the local newspaper, so she decided to keep it as her own pet. About a month after, she discovered that the dog was pregnant and it soon gave birth to 5 beautiful little beagle pups. We had been thinking about a dog for Christian for quite a while and as soon as we saw the pups, we immediatly fell in love with one. We brought him home last Thursday and now have a new addition to the family and a life long friend for Christian. His name is Pugsley. Here are some pictures. All he wants to do is sleep but there is one of him awake. Dave

Oooooo he's adoreable! I've always thought beagles were the cutest little dogs, they always look like a puppy.

He's a cool looking dog. I had a Beagle/Fox Terrier when I was a kid and he was the greatest dog I ever had. Cool name too. We lost our cat named Pugsley to cancer about 6 months ago, but his sister, yes, her name is Wednesday, is still with us.

He is soooo cute!
Beagle warning: They will follow their noses, so be sure he's secured and always under supervision! My friend's sister adopted one from the local humane society. He used to take off whenever he got the chance. He was picked up a good 10 miles away once! Thank goodness he has one of those ID microchips implanted into him. A vet out in the county 10 miles away was able to find his owner because of the microchip!
Also, Beagles are known for being a bit piggy when it comes to food! They will keep eating even after they're full. I heard of one that got into the dog food bag and ate the whole thing. Owners found him groaning and not able to move from over-eating! So be sure his food is secure, too!
Have fun!

OH.. he's so cute. I got a beagle mix when I was a little girl in kindergarden and he lived until after I graduated and then some. His name was Max. He was my favorite dog because he was my first. Good choice for a kid. Hope your son and Pugsley have many cool adventures! Tonja

Takila, You are right about 'the beagle factor' as I like to call it. I wouldn't doubt that they have one of the better noses in all the dog classes. We had one also when I was a boy and she was the same way - once she got done with the nose she was the most loving and affectionate dog we had ever owned. She also had the 'piggy' attitude when it came to food. She would eat so fast (without chewing it seemed) that she would cough and sputter and sound as if she were choking herself to near death - sounded awful. Guess it is just another one of those beagle things. We do have a back yard that is totally sealed in so there is no way he can get out (works great for our 3yr old son too - LOL). We live next to a busy city highway with lots of traffic and already know the dangers of that. Dave

"totally sealed" huh? we had a beagle that was an escape artist. we had a fenced in yard but he'd get out anyway. we couldn't figure it out until one day we made believe we were leaving and hid behind the garage, sure enough, as soon as he thought we were gone he did his houdini trick. he'd jump and CLIMB over the fence. after we put a top on the fence, the little bugger TUNNELED his way out.
good luck with Pugsley, he's a cutie.

You are right stefan. Pugsley loves to go out in the yard and roll around in the dirt. He plays for about an hour and comes in smelling horrible and covered in sand and grass and half the rest of the back yard. The wife is always rubbing him down with doggy wipes to make him smell better. She doesn't understand that beagles are beagles and that you just have to let them go and do what they want.
