A few signs of a change of season are starting to creep in here, at 53.5 degrees north latitude. A lot of the ash trees have now turned yellow (they are always the first trees to turn colour). And the nights are definitely getting cooler -- we were down to 4 C (39 F) several nights ago. Then again, tomorrow is forecast to hit 88 F (31 C), so there's still some heat to go yet. I'm not so keen on snow, but it's been a very hot summer, and I'll be happy to see the cooler autumn weather arrive.

No, no. I can't tumble during the winter. You stop wishing for snow right now.

I am waiting for snow also. Here in Floriduh, everybody looks like they just got out of the sauna. Hair do? Why bother? When I speak to people about the climate difference between here and Alaska, my home, I tell them, If you cooked a dinner and wanted to save the leftovers, do you put them on the front door steps, or do you refrigerate them? The cold is your friend, you can dress for that. Once you have stripped down for the heat and it keeps getting hotter, what you gonna do? Especially if you are framing, or pouring concrete? I watch active people come down here, and slowly get trapped in their air conditioned house, auto, and only go to air conditioned stores. No one really goes to the beach here, except for foreign tourists, everyone has a boat, but it only grows barnacles. The cold is your friend. I found 2016 acres outside of Nome. My shop is here, arghhhhhhh. Pretty soon, I will turn into a sundried prune with luggage for knees. Paradise.

Snow?!? What's "snow"? In '89 we had a "snow storm"-6" and they shut down schools, gov., businesses! It's now refered to as "the big snow" .

When my husband & I first got married, we visited his people in Louisiana. We were sittin at the kitchen table talking about Washington & weather & stuff. (His cousins have never been here. These aren't city people either!) They'd never eaten salmon. (kept saying Sal-mon) And when we told them about studded tires...his cousin Blaise looked at us & said, "you're kidden right? Why the hell they put metal in tires?" Then we told them about tire chains. No matter what we said...he didn't believe us!
Hey Doc...ya don't have to be from Alaska to use the outdoors as one big fridgerator...I keep food & pop outside when it gets cold enough too! Specially around the holidays!

I'm sorry Ron but I am so not ready for winter and am so hoping that we get little or NO snow at all this year.
LOL Liz, I can totally relate to your stories. Some friends of mine in Lousiana were totally amazed when they saw our car with the plug hanging out of the grill ... "Is that an electric car?" Try to explain winter and how cars won't start if they aren't plugged in and how you can drive your truck out on the lake cause it's frozen over. Another good one is ice fishing ... "Why would anyone want to fish for ice?" *smile*

I, for one am NOT wanting or ready for snow - but I can understand how someone who gets really hot weather would want colder temperatures. Here in Canada we have 4 seasons. almost winter, winter, still winter and roadwork!
I can live without snow, the cold I can deal with, but I really don,t like snow - too many idiots driving crazy it the snow!

Snow = money for me! I'm paid commision on how many gallons of Propane I deliver. So let it snow! Just a faint hint of autumn in the air here in Northern AZ. The Aspens haven't changed yet but we are getting into the high 30's at night. I might just try cross-country skiing or snowshoeing this year. PS Ron, isn't winter a great time for a nice pint of Guinness? Ha ha! Let's not get started.

Ron, you need to get a nice dirt bike to go along with your kitty cat! You can cover all the seasons that way! There are some great trails to ride over your way. I used to race for the Honda shop in Cadillac and one of my favorite races was the Jackpine 500 west of Houghton Lake not too far from you. It was a ralley type race, you had to keep a 35mph average over the entire race with check points, great fun! I am kind of enjoying this warmer weather, much nicer to run the saw out in front of my garage. Take care, Bill

Hey Bill, I have a lot of difficulty handling two wheels. All my friends ride Harleys, if I could stay up on two wheels, I'd be riding with them.
It is really handy here for off road riding of all kinds. I can access the trail system from my house. Bill, do you ride a snowmobile? I have another friend in Cadillac that I am hoping to be able to ride with.
Ron
ps. I hope to have some photos within a day or so.
