A few years back, a wild and crazy squash vine from my neighbors garden grabbed on to a branch of my spruce tree, now we do this every year. We figure it's 25 - 30 feet long. Last year we did this with a bird house gourd but it died off on the ends when it got into the pine tree so we use a regular squash this year. It didn't seem to mind at all.

Saves garden space -- just grow them up the trees!
Looks like a nice buttercup squash on the vine too.

That's cool. Usually, I'm having to pull off "vining" vegies from other vegies I'm growing so they don't kill them. Used to have a neighbor grow pumpkins on their front porch railings. Then when Fall came around, they had pumpkins decorating their front porch! I had a gourd do the same thing.........it started to grow up into the next door neighbors tree. It was a good two stories high!
