Well, off to see the new house tonite, and noticed that the hardwood floors were done using a wider size slab. We had expressed a preference for the narrower size (we wanted 2 1/4 wide) they installed the 3 1/4 instead which is much too wide for what we wanted or liked and had included in the contract that we wanted the smaller size... Well they did all of the second floor hall and part of the downstairs hall - so we called the office & they had the guy stop work - they called the guy and he stopped work immediately.
We got a call from the flooring company asking that since it was their fault, could they compensate us in any way..... Hmmmm now this was intestesting....
So we asked them for a mosaic border in the bathroom around the tub and ceramic behind the toilet in the main bathroom. We got it. Actually I can live with the wide tile, although I don't love it but I can live with it but we had wanted the border before but we ended up cancelling the order because it was too expensive. I'm happy with the deal, hubby isn't so thrilled as he wanted a lighter color for the floor, but we're stuck with that... 4 more days till we move in...
I'm happy they have good service and that they didn't try to worm their way into saying it was our fault for some reason...

I think Things are going to work out better than you expected. The narrower flooring is more prone to warping than the wider flooring. In my old house, the flooring actually formed a bubble in the middle of the living room. The wider flooring, if it expanded that much would not have made the bubble. Good for you guys for letting them work it out, and good for them for really trying to make good the way they did. Tearing out the flooring would have slowed down your move in, and tore up the underlayment. Tweety, I hope your new home is comfortable, warm, and you all feel peace. Great luck to you folks.

Who pays attention to a hall floor, Tweetie? Nice solution on the compromise. And that flooring contractor deserves 'positive feedback.' Mistakes happen all the time. Sensible solutions not as often.

Rich, that floor goes in my living room too as well as the hall to the kitchen and the upstairs hallway - I have hardwood floors in the stairs too- you can see pics in the "Pictures of the building of my new house" thread I'll post pics once the flooring is all in

Cool that they took care of ya! Your gonna like the wider stuff anyway- narrow stuff gets to busy and distracting (I was going to say hides the dirt better- but that would be in my house- yours is probably spotless!)
