I saw this video and had to ask.... Is this real or just a camera trick? I don't see how they could have done it unless it was real. I'm sure they got chewed pretty good from all kinds of animal rights activists even if it was not real. It was kind of shocking the first time I saw it - not exactly a great selling point. Check out the link below. WARNING!!!!! CAT LOVERS MAY FIND THIS CLIP EXTREMELY OFFENSIVE!!!! ebaumsworld.com/2006/07/sportka.html

That is pretty sick no matter how it was done. I hope the folks that made it did get in hot water.

OMG, that's hillarious in such a sick way! It is totally fake of course but I can imagine the flood of emails from over emotional cat lovers everywhere pouring in already. I on the other hand, am thinking of sending that one to the Mythbusters asking if it's possible for a sunroof to actually decapitate a cat in that fashion...? Just trying to imagine what they'd come up with to "test" it is motivation enough for me. I bet it "COULD" be done but that glass would have to be razor sharp and you'd need about a 1/3HP motor. That's a job for Adam and Jamie for sure. ;D

I don't think it decapitated the cat - maybe just strangled it - although I didn't look close enough to it to see if the head was still there - I saw this before, kinda sick...

The history of the ad, It was done by an ad company and actually aired in europe. It was pulled really swiftly. The auto company suffered in sales, and there was an outcry. Personally, I think the ad was done so well, I enjoyed it the first time I saw it. I knew it was fabricated right off. I would not have enjoyed it, if it came on when I was not prepared, and I only caught it, I would have been outraged. The real clue was the abscence of struggle and blood. Still, things of that nature I like to be prepared for. It was skillfully done. I suspect more things like that will occur, and some will not be so hard to tell the difference on.

just from reading what everyone is saying...I can't view whatever it is. Even though it's fabricated, as Doc says, I alway want to cry when I see an animal being hurt...I know...I'm a woosy.

Yeah Doc, I would have to think it was done in taste and that the cat was not really hurt in any way. The effects are so real, especially if you look through the drivers side window and see the part drop down. As, I mentioned before, it was not a great selling point and they probably had many repercussions from it. I have to agree that I also did not know whether to laugh or cry. It is definitely one of those odd things that you don't know exactly how to take. What were they thinking!?!

If you watch close, when the cat falls off the car, it still has it's head. Just trick photography, but in really bad taste.

Doc, there was a bit of a struggle. The cat was trying to scratch away. I'm just glad I didn't post this one....

I have to make some assumptions about this post based on the header, as I have no intentions of viewing the EVIL CAR nor the follow-up posts. Even if my assumptions are only half-correct, why is this being posted on a rock tumbling forum? ?

Can you imagine the fecal matter storm the ad agency, and auto company faced? Some things are really not funny in the long run. I would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that one.

Well it is in the off topic forum...
And while I'm a cat person, I can't be offended by a little tounge in cheek advertisement, (one more good reason not to let your cat roam outside!)
the other ad in this campaign had the hood pop up and knock a bird out of the sky, which I thought was even funnier, certainly a bit less distasteful, unless you are a pidgeon facier....

My original intent with this post was NOT to try to offend anyone here. I know there are many here that proudly display pictures of their cats and other animals for the rest of us to see, and in no way am I making light of people and their love of animals. I was as shocked as most of you when I saw this clip, mostly for the impact it has in the animal world and the repercussions it probably caused the company from the rights activists, their loss of sales due to this being aired, and the fact that it is just not right morally. I in no way intended it as an exhibition into the morbid side of my or anyones imaginations. I, myself have always had a deep respect for animals and feel that this clip went above the moral standards of pushing the line to promote the sale of their product. In essence, I was merely trying to get some input from people as to their own thoughts about whether it was done in taste, with no effects to the cat, and what their moral opinions of the matter was, not because I thought it was something to get some 'kicks' from. I deeply apologize that anyone has become offended and is the reason for the WARNING tag attached. I hope that everyone can understand that it was not posted to offend.
