Yep, Oct. 3, and it's definitely fall in these parts (Canadian Prairies). I went to the river valley ravines to take some fall colour pix today, and was stunned to see that most of the leaves have already fallen from the trees in the native woods. Here's a couple of scenes I found with colour, not the greatest, but it's all I've got. FALL -- COMING SOON TO YOUR PART OF THE WORLD (unless you are like Deepsouth, who gets spring ;D)

Don't forget the MUSHROOMS! These are some kind of pink colored Cortinarius or "Corts" The classic Amanita Muscaria (Fly Agaric) And here we have the typical fall wild mushroom basket. Starting at noon working clockwise in: white chanterelle - Matsutake (pine mushroom) - hedgehog mushroom - puffball (edible when flesh is still white) - golden chanterelle - lobster mushroom - giant orange chanterelle

Hmm, looks like some nice Amanita muscaria in the top two pics. If I ate the correct side of the mushroom, would I grow until I dwarfed the forest? Or would I shrink? Or does only Lewis Carroll know the answer? -Don

'Shrooms---I have the most repulsive mushrooms growing in the back yard right now. Surpasses gross and disgusting. So disgusting in fact, that I don't think a photo should be posted--there are children on here, right? Let's just say I have a whole 'pecker patch' of them growing under the lilac bushes, 6-8" tall. Their real name is 'phallus impedicus'. And they totally reek---to draw flies to spread more spores. It is not pleasant visually or olfactoraly (made this word up I think in my backyard!!!!
