A few months ago I started a post about writing my own book and getting it published. I got alot of great support and info about the publishing aspect of it all from many of the great people here on the board. I was about to give up on the project, but something (and many of you) told me to just keep at it and see what would happen.
At the time, I had a Prologue, a Forward, and about 20 Chapters done. I am writing in the Fantasy Fiction genre (dragons and swords and that sort of thing).
Well, to make the story short, I just finished with the first book. It is mostly still in freehand on paper and, as of yet, unedited. I ended up with about 46 chapters and 650 pages in paperback format, so it seems that I will be typing forever!?! It will be the first book of about a 3 to 4 book series by the time I am done babbling on and on.
I have decided to wait until I have the entire series done before thinking about the publishing aspect of it. My story line almost demands that I do it this way. There are so many options available for publishing, that I don't want to overwhelm myself into thinking that it is not worth the effort, and this way I am not bound to any deadline or time frame and will be able to concentrate more on my story and writing it to the best of my ability. When I am done, then we will see if it is worthy of being printed.
I wanted to thank everyone here that responded to my original post back in June, and let them know that they really helped me in getting at least this far, and that they gave me the extra boost I needed to try to finish it no matter how it turns out. It has also given me a new aspect and outlook about myself and my life that I never knew existed, and I am finding that the farther I go, the more satisfaction I am receiving from the experience. Who knows, I might just keep doing it for that reason alone. Even if it never goes anywhere in the end, I can still say I did it!
Thanks to all for the support,
Dave
