i just had a wonderful morning....and then a terrible afternoon.
i got a call this morning from my best friends mom...she said he will be back from iraq...by thanksgiving ;D...and he is going to retire after this last trip over there....this is his second tour there... man i just felt a little better knowing he was coming home for good.
then this afternoon...my father in law calls to tell me his house was broken into...and the GUITARS are gone...his and mine...his sniper rifle is gone...his purple hearts are gone...and a couple of other medals...plus various other things.
he said that he will find his stuff...no matter what it takes...or where he has to go....but my father in law cant even go to the bathroom without oxygen....much less go on a manhunt.
and i felt like junk later on...just because i thought to myself...why the les paul junior...why the rifle that would have belonged to my son...why couldnt they take the t.v. instead...why my guitars....kinda selfish huh?.
but i suppose having my friend come home alive from irag...is just a big plus in this day....and those other things are somewhat minamal....but dang'it...selfish or not i want the les paul guitar back...and the medals for my son to have....just venting...glad my friend is coming home.

The news of your freind coming home from Iraq should cancel out all the other stuff, but I would be VERY upset too, if my Les Paul was stolen! My 8 year old is starting to learn to play and I am looking so forward to someday giving it to him.

Whoah dude, that sucks! It is good news your friend is coming home. Good news indeed. I hope you can be there for him. The break in, bummer. It sounds like someone knew what was where though. My ex took my guitars during the divorce. It was kinda ok, in a way. I had broken my left pinkie finger and my entire left hand locks up when playing. Meant I did not have to look at them and be wistful, or lamenting. She got the royalties also. Oh well. The rifles, ouch! That really sucks! All of my rifles are extreme wildcat calibres. Not one uses conventional ammo, and none can be fired without an handful of gunsmiths with that knowlege of wildcat cartridges. A break in like that is a constant fear. So much so, that even if my house was broken into, no one would even know I had one, let alone know where it was. I am glad your father in law did not also have an heart attack over it. I am not sure how I would handled it. He will never feel like his house is his home again. He sounds like a tough son of a gun, and good for him. Glad your friend is on his way home. I am a vet. I was there. Viet Nam. I hope someday, war will become history. Einstein stated, he did not know how WWIII would be fought, but, WWIV would be fought with sticks and stones. That is not a very pleasant thought.

Bummer, dad, about that breakin. Hope ya get some of it back, though that seldom happens. Give that buddy of yours a big hug and thank you from me for doing what most of us think has to be done.
By the way, you might want to put in a standing search on ebay for that guitar. Sometimes that is where people try to fence items like that. If you can identify it, the cops might be able to get it back for you.

well spent all day at the pawn shops and such...putting out the word...so far nothing....the insurance company wont pay for the les paul guitar...just a new replacement...they said it should have been listed under a seperate policy...it being a 1956 model.
everything that was taken added up to maybe 2 grand over his 1500 deductible...the selling value of the les paul was around 10k...shoulda been 15k for insurance purposes...hard lesson.
he will not be dishonest about any values on anything...he spent all of his life in the military...just the way he is.
the medals will be replaced according to him...but its still not the same...i beleive that the people i talked to will call if the medals show up...but not so sure about the les paul guitar...my guitars were old and not worth very much.
luckily a lot of stuff was left untouched....looks like 1 person went in grabbed what they could and ran out...hopefully something will turn up down the road.

A good way to catch this low life is to run an ad in the classifieds (Will pay top dollar CASH for Collectables, Guitars, Rifles, etc...) OR, offer a reward. Either way that will better your chances of catching this scum bag. Like docone said it sounds like they knew what they were after. Which is true most of the time so I would keep it quite about the classifieds and see if they bite. Best of luck catching them/him... Its sad that allot of times with good news comes bad.

never thought about the classifieds....cool suggestion...i have been told to keep the rifle hush hush...if the right person sees it...they will know who, what, where, how...and stuff like that...thanks for the classified idea.
