I received a shipment of grit
I have now in my possession: coarse: 60/90, 40/70 med: 220 prepolish: 600 polish: aluminia (sp?), "something dioxide" (thinking it's titanium dioxide)
Is there something in there that I don't need to use? I know 60/90 is coarser/better to use, but could I use the 40/70 for softer stones instead of the 60/90 - I noticed that it seems finer.
What's the difference between the polishes?
You can tell that I'm getting ready for the "professional model" tumbler because of all these questions. But I'd hate to waste all that time, energy & grit by making a mistake.
Thanks everyone for your help - my status may say "full member" but I'm still a newbie at heart!

For your first stage pick one either 40/70 or 60/90. 40/70 is more coarse than 60/90. Then on to your #220.
Just guessing here, aluminia is probably Aluminum Oxide. (??) Never tried the "titanium dioxide", but AO works great on harder rock like quartz and agate.
Congrats on the new tumbler!

Yep just pick one course- 40/70 should be courser than 60/90 so check that- I would use the 40/70 for real rough stuff or very hard agates and such- congrates on the new tumbler!

Congrats on the tumbler. Like the others I would only use the 40/70 on really hard rocks. With the grits you have I would do the 60/90, 220, 600, and then the polish. My grits are 60/90 120/220 500 1000 tripoli Cerium oxide My first couple of batches were with AO, however, I didn't get as nice a polish with that as I did with the Cerium Oxide. Tami

I use 60/90 120/220 600 tripoli cerium oxcide. Is 1000 less fine than tripoli? I thought they were about the same?

Yes tripoli is finer than 1000 not by much but there is a difference.
