On Monday afternoon, I accidently deposited an empty envelope at the ATM of my bank. I went inside and told someone what had happened, and she told me to just go re-do my deposit with the envelope that contained my check. I questioned her about this and she said it would be okay because since I made both deposits within minutes of each other, they will figure it out. Tuesday after work I tried to use my ATM to get gas and my card wasn't authorized. So I came home and checked my account online and although everything looked normal, I wasn't allowed to pay bills, and there was an 800# to call for info. So after 10 minutes on hold, I talked to someone who gave me another # to call and after 5 minutes on hold I talked to another person who had to get another person on the phone who said I had to call a different # but they were already gone for the day, so I would have to wait til 9am Wed morning. So I hung up and drove to my bank and talked to a rep who punched in my account and told me that there was nothing he could do, that I have to call that last # I was given and they will take care of it. So this morning at 9am I called that # and after an hour of either being put on hold or given another number(3 times), I finally start talking to someone and we got disconnected! So I call back and after a short time on hold, the woman I'm talking to tries to transfer my call to the banking center and I yelled "you are not going to transfer me to another useless #, you are going to take care of this". She says she can either transfer my call, or I could go into the banking center myself and resolve this. I asked her where the banking center was and she says, "The branch where you bank. They are the only ones who can do anything about this" AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! I was so pissed off I almost threw the phone. Talk about a bunch of incompentent people who are supposed to be there for customer service, my God, I just don't know about the quality of training these people are getting. So this afternoon I went back to my bank, talked to a different person and within 5 minutes he hands me back my ATM card and says "it's all taken care of". I brought my phone in the bank with me and if he would have told me to call that #, I was going to hand him my phone and say "You call that damn #, I'm tired of dealing with these idiots!" Sorry about the rant, but I feel better now getting it off my chest. Oh, and I won't name names, but the bank is B__K of Am___ca

I hope you like your bank, I would have cancelled my account if I was you. Then you would have gotten some service. They don't give a tinkers damn about you after they 'have' you but threaten to leave and they fall all over themselves to make you happy. I hope you bank with a people bank instead of a business bank - if its a business bank, they don't care about you no matter what.

Wow, that is terrible! We haven't had any problems with B of A in the last 6 years, in fact they have gone "over and above" a few times for us. I was going to recommend them to you until I saw the end of your post! I wouldn't blame you for telling them where to go man!

This thread does bring out thoughts. First, and foremost, never trust a banker or lawyer, in that order. Second, the borrower is slave to the lender. Third, any entity, or government that is powerful enough to provide what we want is powerful enough to take away what we need. I bet you will never guess, I do not have a bank account, nor do I have a mortguage, nor do I use credit. That is the only reason I am solvent. As an artist/jeweler interest payments kill solvency. I have seen people completely wiped out by someone they never, saw erroneously entering a number. My wife was a millionaire. When she got divorced, she also was wiped out with the stroke of a pen. We are still dealing with that. The borrower is slave to the lender. Get out of debt, no matter what the cost. Live free. Just like we used to. Manage monies. Get out of the system! Be alive. I have seen people stranded by a single computer error, ultimately divorced because some faceless individual moved a comma, or misplaced a slip of paper. I have seen lives destroyed because they trusted a "financial institution". I always thought institutions were for the insane. Does this mean the insane are managing everything we worked for? Do we allow that? Is it really a good life when we work 80% of our lives paying for something we use only 25% of? That is a mortguage, add auto loans, and the other percentage is credit cards. Do we really live free when we are dependant on someone else for our survival? What happens if one day we wake up and we are laid off? As a pastor, I counsel people. I do not accept compensation, nor do I have fees. My wife and I do marriage counseling, and drug and alcohol counseling. It does interfere with our art, but so does everything else. The one single question most asked is, "How do I save money?" I tell them, get out of debt. Then I tell them, never throw away anthing twice. Banks have made it convient to hold us hostage. Banks have made it simple to become wrapped in an artificial ease of lifestyle. Then some faceless individual can really make our day. We pay for the mistake, we pay to make up the results, we pay to get back our artificail lifestyle. We pay for the freedom to pay. Six the banks, six the mortguage, six the conviences. They will bite hard one day. Our children, ourselves, our lives. The Electricals created banks, and bankers. That is why they look like they do. We are paying aliens!

Yep...doesn't surprise me... I used to bank at the B of A about 6 or 7 years ago until I started getting strange overdraft charges on my statements. They were playing games with check deposit dates and balance amounts so that folks were getting charged for overdrafts even though the they had deposited money to cover.
Long story short ..... I joined a class action lawsuit against the B of A and we won. However, every once in a while when applying for credit or loan I get asked about those overdraft charges and have to produce the class action lawsuit settlement papers to prove I'm not a welch!
I'll never bank with those crooks again... I use USAA now.

Kinda off the subject...but maybe not!
I have and ATM machine. It's mine, I load it & it's my money inside.
God love them, but, the elder people (or q-tips - love that name - daughter said after I can no longer be called "the old lady" she's gonna start calling me that!) always seem to have a hard time putting their cards in the right slot. Somehow they end up putting them into the slot the receipt comes out of. Well, their card gets ate up...they get NO $$...and the machine is useless for anyone else to use cause it's jammed with someones card. Oy Vey! I placed a big ole brite neon piece of paper over the area that says "Card does NOT go here" & so far, the q-tips have been minding themselves!

You think that's bad?
Try taking $300 out of an ATM and NOT GETTING IT.
That is really, really, fun.
Nothing like jackass five dollar an hour bank employees calling you a thief to ruin your day.

I never give a second chance when it comes to "my money". I go through a couple bank accounts each year. One of these days I might find one that's good enough to keep for a while.

Holy Sh*t Ed, that was THE CLASSIC RANT! ;D ROFLMAO but don't get me wrong I feel ya man, I really do. bin der dun dat. After I read it the first time, I went back and read it like a Dennis Leary rant and that's when all the the ROTF started. ;D I have a way of dealing with call centers that usually gets me past some of that run-around but when i'm at an establishment and i'm getting the mushroom treatment I always ask to speak to the manager and I am very persistent. Those systems are designed to bounce you around enough that unless you have a major problem, you will give up before anyone has to waste more than 15 seconds dealing with you. Power to the people man!

I think what really gets me the most though, was the first person I talked to in the bank right after I realized what I had done. All she had to do was go into the ATM room, pull the empty envelope and replace it with the one that had the check in it. She was just too damn lazy to get up off her butt and do her job. Trouble is, I didn't get her name and I wasn't really paying attention to what she looked like. I've been wanting to close this account anyway and go to the credit union my wife has her account at and just add my name to it. so now seems like as good a time as any. Ob La De, Ob La Da, life goes on....

Oh my god Stoner, I thought I was the only one getting screwed by the bank (not yours).
I got a new atm card in the mail. I didn't phone in immediately to activate the card. The next day I go to get some money and the atm machine rejected my old atm card. Ran home, called to activate my card, but it wouldn't go through, so I ran back to the bank to get it activated. The people at the bank were polite, but could not help. The lady then called the banking center and because I could not remember that last 10 transactions (heck, I often can't remember what I had for dinner last night), they could not activate the card, even though I was calling from one of their branches and would have to send a new card. In a fairly reasonable tone, I told them that they were holding my money hostage, they were not very easy to do business with for cancelling my old card before the new card was activated. I happen to travel quite a bit and if they pulled this stunt on me while traveling, I could have been in trouble. I asked if they could FedEx the new card out. They could but it would cost me $15. I mentioned that the banky did not want my business or investments.
I think the people at the bank thought I was going to close our accounts because the next day the branch manager called to apologize. My wife took the call. She said that I didn't say anything (I don't rant, I just stew LOL). Then, that Saturday, she was at the bank and the manager apologized again in person. Now, they were starting to bug my wife. We didn't close our accounts because the people (one of who is my neighbor) at the local branch tried as hard as they could to activate my card. But, the darn people at the head office were a real pain. I feel for ya, stoner.

Hi Stoner, I think the moral of your story is ---- Go to the Bank in person and tell them straight.
If you Phone its the Wrong # if its a computer error its the Computer (forget the Idiot that typed in the comand !!)
Its always someone else !!
Have a good day Jack Yorkshire UK
PS Problems are made to be solved !! ? life would be so boring without them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ?

Nothing ever devised by man has more potential for screwing up your life than a computer.
With the possible exception of alcohol and handguns.

Can we send all our problems to you, Jack?
I gave up banks 40 years ago. Have used a brokerage account for checking ever since. Keep a tiny savings account in AK and another in AZ just to have a place to cash checks nearby. Have never used an ATM and have no interest in learning how. When I need cash I simply write a check to one of the saving accounts and withdraw that much cash. Life is simple that way.
But try to get phone service with Qwest, even if you have had it before with them. I called them from Seattle to arrange phone service in AZ Wednesday after I arrived. Thursday I still had no dial tone. So I went to a phone at a friendly service station and started trying to find out what was going on. Two hours later of bouncing around from this person to that with long holds in between I was still at ground zero. I was becoming unpopular with the service station so I had to break it off. The next day I had a dial tone, but on the first incoming call, ny neighbor five doors down answered the phone. Seems they had us wired together some way. So two more hours of horrible resistance on the phone today to get that straightened out. To their credit they did send someone out today to fix it. But getting through to a corporate giant when you have a problem to resolve with them is one of the more maddening aspects of modern culture.

I would have canceled and made a big deal about it there. There is no respect for customers anymore. And I would make anyone I know cancel too with me.

I hear that I moved on July1 turned all my utility's moved to my new house and decided to go to a new electric company, in August I called to find out where my deposit $300.00 was and the lady said it was on it way to me now it is almost November still no check so I called and was told it went out September first then yesterday I got a call saying it would go out on the 26th of October. Now tell me if I had not payed my bill in 4 months would I still have service from them I think not. The system stinks and I think it is because of a bunch of lazy people that except someone else to do there job! Cina
