Don't ever feel bad! I use to work for a law enforcement agency for over 26yrs. You have to do what you have to do. As the police can't be every where all the time. When I grew up you were taught if it's not your's you don't touch it. This kid is a product of his parents. But he also is responsible for making his own choices. I would go for restitution and community service as a punishment for his crime. He need's to learn a tough leason now before he turn's into an adult. Or he will be spending most of his adult life in prison doing more time.

The sear panic of being caught probally kept him from trying to hard. I have a 7 and 4 year old. As they get older if I ever hear of them doing these kinds of things....... well lets not go there. Glad you caught one of them. Maybe this will deter the others.

Most good people have soft spots in their hearts. When you see a young person in pain, it's a natural feeling to want to help somehow, but this is where that truly breaks down... This BOY had the will & knowledge to cut someones brake lines? Where the hell did he learn that? That's not something that just pops into the head one day. That was an evil, malicious thing to think of & he had EVERY intension of carrying it out until you stomped on the little piss ant! That wasn't some harmless prank. It was a bonafied attempt of murder. Please don't let your soft heart talk you into letting the future convict go with a little warning. I'm sure his father is probably a decent man...but this boy is a danger & the father will try to smooth things over rather than teach the boy right from wrong AND in the process, another person, down the road, may not be as diligent as you & end up in a canyon somewhere cause their brakelines were succesfully cut. Chances are, this child has already seen that lying and manipulation gets you much farther & MUCH faster to where he wants to be. (instead of hard work and honesty, which usually takes longer but builds a true person)
Allright...someone kick the soapbox out from underneath my feet!
