Some of you know that my wife had surgery last monday..... The surgery was performed to fuse a portion of the spine just below the old fusion which was done over 25 years ago. The surgery took just over 3 hours and the doctor seemed very pleased when we spoke to him just after. My wife was able to walk about 8 hours afterwards… the hospital staff seemed impressed and said that most patients will not even try to stand up that soon after. I took the entire week off to stay with her at the hospital as she needed constant attention for the first few days. It was difficult for her to turn herself in bed and the nurses usually took about 30 minutes to respond after being summoned so I thought it would be best for me to stay in the hospital with her for the duration. Luckily just before I lost my mind they released her Thursday afternoon. Her surgeon said that he didn’t know how she was able to get around at all with all of the nerves he found ‘squished’ (his word) between the bones. The good news is that she does not have any of the nerve pain that she had before the surgery. The relief was immediate and seems to be permanent! We are still keeping our fingers crossed for a speedy recovery. Well... I just wanted to let those who knew what was going on.... Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers. Dan

Thanks again for the good thoughts and kind words. She's doing great!! ;D Still a long way to go before full recovery but it's great to see her taking full strides when she walks. I had gotten so used to seeing her do the 'back pain shuffle' that I forgot what her normal stride looked like. I'm just so pleased with the results...especially after several doctors told her that no one would touch her back because it was such a mess. I highly recommend the Fondren Orthopedic hospital here in Houston...excellent facilities and staff. Dr. Heilman is a miracle worker in my opinion...

Great to hear your wife is doing better, It's so important to have a partner that can take care of the spouse or kids when they are sick. Kudos to you as well. My wife just had a surgery to remove massive kidney stones that we never knew she had, I told her to keep em so we can polish em for the kids, I hope she knew I was kidding.
