Cool. We had flurrys here in Orlando last week. First time since 1989. Was more like rain with sleet, but the news called it flurrys. Tonja

That makes me homesick. Back home, it is -19F. Snow usually starts falling around the end of August. Floriduh rarely gets snow. I miss it. I miss the Aurora also.

Well, then this will make you even more homesick Doc.... we are in a record cold snap, and when I took that pic this morning it was...you guessed it... -19F, with a windchill of -42F. There's a catch Liz, you can take all the snow you want, but you have to take away some of the cold too. -Don

In case anyone didn't notice, i've been gone for a few days due to a freak sleet-snow-ice storm that knocked out power and broadband to alot of people around here. I had a bit of time yesterday (day and a half afterward) to snap a few quick P&S shots while catching a ride with my buddy in his Pathfinder to gather up some rations. We only got about a foot and a half of snow over a 32hr period down here near sea level but higher elevations nearby got between 60-80cm (2 feet & change). It only takes about a foot of snow to shut everything down here for 24hrs. It doesn't snow too often here but when it does it usually catches everyone off guard and then melts a few days later. I used to live in Prince George B.C. where it would routinely snow between 1-2ft overnight and everyone just managed to deal with it somehow. I remember hollowing out and making forts from 8-12 ft high snowpiles that were left in the cul-de-sacs by the snowplows when I was a kid. ...and YES, we DID have to walk to school TEN MILES in BARE FEET and it was UPHILL BOTH WAYS in the BLISTERING COLD with only ONE jacket. We had to take turns wearing it! ;D

I would take all the cold & snow I could get! I think I'm gonna be in trouble when husband & I retire. I want to go to the mountains & he likes cement... hey...maybe that'll work out after all!

Hey Don, how about sending some of that snow down my way! I've been praying for snow since September! Looks like I have a major change moving in tomorrow. Can't believe that it's still in the upper 50's today. Snow is supposed to start tomorrow. We'll see. The TCat just keeps inching closer to the door. Ron

Our "dusting" turned into several inches last night.

Ron and Liz, I will try my very hardest to will this snow away from here and out to you good folks. I don't seem to do much with the stuff anyway, except shovel it and occasionally slide down a hill on it, so you are more than welcome to it all! ;D
Rob, Yeah, that's gotta be pretty early in the season for a major snowfall in Vancouver. At least yours will melt away, I'm stuck with it until the end of March (unless my willing-it-away thing works). -Don

I didn't think Vancouver GOT snow - we hear about them closing down everything when it snows as there's no equipment to get it plowed (we have family in Burnaby)
Today we got rain and very mild weather for this time of year, but tomorrow they're calling for freezing rain - I'm glad I'm walking & bussing it in to work!
I could go a long time without snow - still hoping for and never getting a green Christmas - but I never quite get it - it always snows for Christmas....
you guys out west: I really feel for you, I hate the stuff. We came back from Disney last year (has it been a year already?) and we had just missed a huge snowfall... hehe - I didn't miss that at all..!

We even got 1 1/2" last night! I loved waking up to the snow, but not the 30 mph winds when it was only 23F outside. I've gotten soft in my four years down here!

I didn't think Vancouver GOT snow - we hear about them closing down everything when it snows as there's no equipment to get it plowed (we have family in Burnaby)... Tweet, I live in Victoria (on Vancouver Island) not in Vancouver. It doesn't make a real lot of difference but we do tend to get more snow over her that actually stays snow long enough for it to be a problem. The main reason we had all the problems was that it began as rain, then sleet, then snow, which is what we here in Canada like to call an ice storm. Everything gets soaked by the rain and then as it's freezing, the snow sticks and builds until trees and power lines start coming down from the extra weight. If something is dry then snow will accumulate only a small amount on it, like for instance, a power line. But, if it is slowly frozen by rain turning to snow then it can build up alot more extra weight. After haviung to drive to a few places around town since all this, I have seen 80+ year old trees brought down by the weight of the snow that was on them. I think this storm caught everyone off guard, me included. We usually don't get our first accumulative snowfall until late December or January. Some years it doesn't snow at all and there are years (like '96) when three feet will fall in 48hrs. I don't think anyone was expecting this in November though. I had just put away the camping equipment for the year and then I had to haul it all out again so I could cook some beans for dinner. ;D Hey, you know that G&R song "November Rain"? Well, it must have been inspired by us because that's basically all it ever does here in November. Rain.

I ended up with only 6 inches last Friday. Was really hoping for more. It had been so warm before that snow came, that the ground underneath isn't frozen. Need more snow before the trails through the forests are really ridable. I see they have 3-4 inches forcast for Wednesday. Ron
