I have a question to Paypal, but thought I'd pose the question here as it sounds like alot people eBay here.
Visa and MC offer a reloadable debit card, where you buy the card and put x amount of money into it. That money is available until you use it up or put more money into it. It is not tied to a back account what so ever.
Does Paypal accept these type of debit cards?

I think they would. I use my checking/visa/debit card with them.
It is free to get an account, and free to add a card. You do nto have to verify or give a bank account (although some sellers of easily liquified goods, such as electronics, will only ship to th everified payPal address).
Just try.
I agree the customer service sucks, but the majority of problems are for the merchant not the buyer. (Not sure ht elink SG posted applies.)
It is nice to be able to file an item not recieved claim with them, or to have someone send me money for a lot less than Western Union, and not much more than the cost of a money order. I will admit I'd rather eat nails than call them.

Wow, I didn't know there were issues with using PayPal. I've bought and sold items, around 30 total, with no issues.
I also use my debit card, which is attached to my bank account and is verified. And that is what I don't like, that it is accessed to my bank account.
I figured with those reloadable type of debit card, you are risking less.
I'd just hate to try and it not work, giving a merchant a chance to give me a bad feedback.

This is what I DO know: Customers have come into my Pub & used their VISA & MasterCard "giftcards" and there is no difference from my end on how ya handle it. The card actually said "giftcard" on it & that is what alerted us there was something new out there. I'm gonna check them out as best I can & try using them for my e-bay purchases from now on. Albertsons carries 2 different kinds that I found. One of them is a specific denomination...I think I only saw $25 ones. You use it then toss it. The other one was the kind that you can reload & I'm thinking you can go up to at least $500...maybe more. One of the main issues I have would be...how to protect myself if a card is lost or stolen & someone tries to use it. I know I'm not a criminal...but is the person spending it?
If anyone else can shed light...please do so!

So, here's a little more info.
Bought a pre-paid visa at Albertsons. Cost 9.95 to just buy card, then I loaded it with $100. (you can load $5 to $500)
Got home & called the company as stated on card I bought. (tried it on-line but they said an error had occurred & to call) Had to give them info on card itself...Name,address , phone & SSN. I will recieve an actual Visa card with my name on it 7--10 working days. Every time I do a transaction...they'll charge me either $1 or $2 depending on type of transaction. Balance inq. are .50.
OR - there's another program in which you pay 9.95 per month & you're not charged transaction fees.
Can be loaded anyplace these cards are sold.
I've seen gift cards sold at $25, 50 & $100 incriments.

Seems like with all the extra charges and hassels I would just as soon use my credit card.

Walgreens offers a nice easy to use loadable card too. I use one to sell with on Ebay. As they take the monies from it I will add enough to keep it in the $50-100 range. Why? Charge backs!! When I sell a $500 to $1000 camera or lens I sure don't want Ebay/Paypal grabbing money when they don't have all the facts. I have only had it tried once, but it sure made it nice that I only happened to have about $65 on the card. Great security for buyers too, either that or a low limit credit card. Another thing I do when selling... is that monies received from Paypal go to a savings account. I have a letter on file with my credit union that states there are to be NO electronic withdrawals from this account. ONLY deposits. Paypal/Ebay are famous for attempting to withdraw money any way they can. Daniel, I would be very careful using a debit card on line. I worked some on line fraud complaints before I retired and I can tell you that they are not as secure as a regular credit card. Where you live and which card you use will effect how secure they are. Nationally, the most you can lose is $50 on a regular credit card if lost or stolen. If reported before it is used they can't hold you for any amount charged after you report it. That is Federal Law, not local. It is good for all states. Just my 2 cents....Bill

I have read all the above and see valid points in all of them. BUT I suspect paypal wants something they can rely on to be valid tomorrow or the next day such as a debt card llinked to a checking account or a valid credit card. Unlike a gift card that could be used on paypal tonight and then drained 5 mins later.

I could use my check card on PayPal, then drain it at some other online site 5 minutes later. No difference.

Aye, yes you could. But with a check card you will still have charges to your checkng account in the morning. with a gift card? No.

I would rather fly a small plane under power lines than give anyone electronic access to any bank account of mine. I let ebay access my credit card for fees only, but none other.

181Lizard, shop around - you seem to have got stuck with some exorbinate fees there. I bought some Visa gift cards from my local bank, National City, for Christmas presents. There was only a one time charge of $5 for any amount and no transaction fees. The cards then worked just like a regular Visa card until the balance was used up.

I agree KG. I for sure will keep my eyes open for better cards. Spacegold...I'm with ya on the electronic access to my accounts. No ones gonna get their mits on my stuff! There's 2 main reasons I decided to try my E-bay purchases this way. If, for some reason, we have an outstanding balance on our card...I don't want to pay the interest on rocks. AND, gettin tired of hearing "More Rocks? Geez...when are you gonna have enough rocks?" By using a card this way...married life becomes more peaceful!

I got a response from PayPal regarding reloadable debit cards: Dear Alfred Schmeer,
Thank you for contacting PayPal.
Hello my name is Kathy, I will be happy to assist you with your questions.
You can go ahead and add the reloadable Visa/MC in your PayPal account but we cannot guarantee 100% that you'll be able to use it with PayPal without experiencing any problems. If you add the card and the system did not ask for it to undergo EUP to confirm it then you may use the card. However, if the system asks the card to undergo EUP then you cannot use it because EUP requires a physical street address for the billing statement of the card. I hope this information helps.
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact us again.
Sincerely, Kathy PayPal Community Support PayPal, an eBay Company
I recieved a gift card for X-Mas... so I tried to add it in PayPal. Didn't work because they want a valid address tied to the card (EUP) and there isn't any. Getting one of those reloadable cards won't have an address tied to it.
I suppose if you get a reloadable card from your bank... will it be tied to your address?
