A long but interesting read on the man, even if you aren't a fan of wrestling his alchohol consumption was a staggering part of his life that I never new about! www.moderndrunkardmagazine.com/issues/10_06/10_06_andre_giant.htmlFrom the story: ...The key to Andre the Giant is this — even as a youth he knew that his disease would dramatically shorten his life. He knew there was no cure, and lived every day with the understanding that death could shamble around the very next corner. Knowledge of this sort can darken a life. It did not darken Andre’s.... ~ ...A very green rookie wrestler named Hulk Hogan toured Japan several times with Andre and witnessed the Giant’s alcohol consumption first hand. According to Hogan, Andre drank, at a minimum, a case of tall boys during each bus ride. When he finished a can Andre would belch, crush the can in his dinner-platter-sized hand, and bounce the empty off the back of Hogan’s head. Hogan learned to count each thunk, so he could anticipate when Andre was running low.... ~ ...Andre proceeded straight to the ring and wrestled three matches, including a twenty-man battle royal. The 16 bottles of plum wine had no discernible effect on Andre’s in-ring ability.... ~ ...Andre thanked the man, and proceeded to order 40 vodka tonics.... ~ ...His bar bill for the month-long stay? Just a shade over $40,000....

When I saw Andre as a kid, I was simply amazed. And I thought that Bobo Brazil was a big man. Ron ps. 119 beers in 6 hours, don't think that I'll try to break that record.

Small world, BAZ. Back in the good old days, Andre used to hang out in the bar of a French restaurant called La Bretagne in Stamford CT. Saw him in there quite a few times. A vodka and tonic looked like a thimble in his hands! Also met Bruno Sammartino in the local deli when I was a kid.

I was VERY fortunate to meet Andre several times in 1981, and 82. A very kind man. The first time I met him I will never ever forget it as he had done a match with (Bad News Brooks) one nasty fighter. Anyway between Matches me and a couple buds went out to have a smoke and behold here came Andre!!! He asked how we were doing and no joke, I felt like I was a kid. I'm 5"8 and I wasn't even close to his chest...But this one guy made some funny joke, hell I can't recall but we all laughed and Andre said (You pretty funny fella) and he put his hand ontop of this guys head and it was like a normal man grasping a grapefruit!!! Very sad that he passed away, He was well loved...
