I'm currently tumbling with 60/90 grit, I need to recharge the grit (it may have to go longer than a week) can I use 40/70 to recharge? I know it's coarser, these stones are hard, can I change grits like this? I know not to do it normally & to clean between grits, but is this acceptable? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png)

In the course it really is not too important- Basically what you will be doing is"restarting" rocks in the courser- oh and keep good notes- I have never used the 40/70 and I'm curious if it gives better results!

I don't see where that is a problem as long as you are going down in grit number you should be okay. Tami

I had some amazing stones with banding inside what looked like quartz but the outside was opaque white with what looked like grass/plants imbedded in the white part - that's all been rubbed away - I'm wondering what will be left ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png) - I find it hard to leave it run by itself, I now have a 33B but only one bbl running so I can keep the other for prepolish & polish, but I'm finding it hard waiting. I'm going to fire up the kiddy tumbler to get more going at once - not doing too good in the patience department lately. I'm looking at all the nice results folks are getting with cut stone, and I'm jealous - I don't think any of my stuff will come out nice & shaped - I'm expecting lumpy stuff once again…. ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png)

I can so relate but without a saw or a grinder, you're not going to get the nice flat, pendant pieces that others get. Whatever the shape of the stone is that you put into coarse, that's pretty much the shape it's going to come out as, only a much smoother version of it.

"... I now have a 33B but only one bbl running so I can keep the other for prepolish & polish, but I'm finding it hard waiting"I tried that with my second 33B, but that didn't last a full day, lol... The only way an empty barrel will last around here is if there's no room for it on the tumbler. And don't think I didn't try to work around that either: ![](http://www.megpro.com/rl92/rocks/xtrabbl.jpg) To bad it doesn't work very well when loaded with rock! ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) I give you another week and I'll bet you'll have that barrel rollin'. ;D;D;D Jimmy

The kiddy one is ready for rocks too!!! Maybe the driveway gravel the kids picked up at my mom's! I'm assuming that once I get to the pre-polish stage, I'll always have both rolling at once. I can't wait - I find the sound soothing... Hubby said "no way are you using starting up that thing again, what did you get the big honking one for then?" My daughter says that the kiddy one interferes with her TV watching. I'm just dying to get the other one loaded up.... I'm having difficulty with the patience thingy!!! I don't want to contaminate that second barrel with grit so I'm trying very hard to be patient. Want so much to have pretty shiny rocks like I've seen on here. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) I love the thought behind that 5th barrel. ha ha Boy, have I turned the idea over in my head how to get the spare barrels tumbling, but just didn't see that option. Maybe it's for the best it doesn't work. I've been running my rocks all year so far in the first stage (yawn, pretty boring) My so called prepolish and polish barrels were demoted quite a while back. Then the double CE died, two spare barrels again. I reasoned with myself that when the time came for the later stages, I'll worry then about the meticulous cleaning of the barrels.

When I recharge with grit, do I add the previous amount called for 4 tbsp) or do I just scoop in a tablespoon or grit - do I use less if I'm adding 40/70 than if I was adding 60/90? so many questions, so little barrels ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

Twweeetttt You never lear if you don't ask! When I recharge I just add about half the required amount- Oh and when you gonna get that extra barrel rolling- Heck when you get to polish you can just get some new barrels- oh and while your at it pick up an extra tumbler!

Jimmy, that's a great idea. Wouldn't it work ok for the polish stage? Less rock, more pellets?
