Sometimes Earthdog's bark is worse than his bite. He loves this Forum so much, his "watchdog" tendencies comes out when an "intruder" gets a little too close. Once he gets to know you, though, then he'll let you by. And then once he gets to know you he's very loyal! And he'll pee on you when he's marking his territory. LOL
It's nice to be able to express your opinion in this type of setting, though at times there will be someone who gets their feelings hurt or someone will get offended by an off-handed remark or joke. My philosophy in life is to be accepting and to just laugh instead of being offended (and if it is offensive, than click that back button and get out of that thread). Don't take things personal. Everyone has good traits and bad traits. And everyone has different sense of humor!
Also, I'm glad that we can talk about other hobbies, interests, things going on in our lives good or bad. That's what friends and families are for, to help you celebrate the good things that happen and help and support you through the bad things that happen. Not everyone has friends and family available to them. Forums are a good way to make new friends/family all over the country/world! I know there are a few members that only want to talk about rocks in this forum and they won't waste their time looking in this section, but that's their prerogative. But then, they shouldn't get on the ones that want to talk about other stuff. But like my mom used to say, that's why there's vanilla and chocolate!

Earth is a good person (deep down inside- somewhere) and he DOES watch out for us- He calls em like he sees them- and He will be the first to admit that he was wrong (but that doesn't happen too often) Once in a while he will get into a pissing match over something- But I think he realizes that when you get into a pissing match- well all you end up with is pee on you! Oh and if you toss him a milkbone once in a while he will wag his tail!

I'm a member of a lot of yahoo groups, I have a lot of interests, collections. One of the worst is antique glassware.........dang, if someone posts off topic, they are reamed. I don't post in those, been a member for several years and I just read, very very rarely do I post.
I'm on animals groups, antiques, candles and more. I am part owner of a few and of course post in those wehre I moderate or own, but for the most part, I keep my mouth shut. There are 2 boards that I am a member of where I feel I can post and won't be punished. This board is one of those two. The other one is a chicken board.........I have chickens, my ex husband decided we needed to be chicken farmers, next thing I know, we needed a chicken pen....... I have worked around animals all my life, from deer, horses, to cougars, but chickens.....? I got on a board to do some reading, and very good people there. Otherwise, any other board or yahoo group, I am very watchful of what I say. The groups I did post in, once they found what i did for a living, I got slammed on a regular basis and I just said the hell with it.
I love this board!

I've got no problem with chickens. I've lived around them most of my life.
Well, mostly no problems. I prefer the chickens that are lazy and like to sleep in. ;D

i raised ducks for a while, does that count?
actually it was a lot of work for animated lawn ornaments. you really understand the true meaning of the term "bird brain" when you raise poultry.

Chickens are cool. I had a pet bantam hen when I was kid. She was cute. Even laid itty bitty eggs but they never hatched of course. The neighbors had some big kind of rooster. Not quite as big as a turkey but close. He had been one of those chicks they would sell at Easter that had been died baby blue. They didn't have the nerve to eat him or get rid of him after Easter so they raised him with their pet dogs. So the poor rooster thought he was a dog. He would even chase cars. He would run after the cars and flap his wings and crow at them. It was hysterical!
On the other hand my grandpa had a commercial chicken house I used to work in during the summer. There I learned how evil and vicious chickens can be to each other when you have a few hundred in close quarters.
I really, really prefer the laid back, free range yard chickens.

One of my bartenders got some chicks to raise for eggs. She let her Grandkids name them. Last spring, she came to work upset & I asked her what was wrong. She got this look on her face & her chin started to quiver, then she asked me, "Lizard? Can chickens swim?"
Well...I had to tell her I didn't know. My Dad had some chickens while I was growing up...but they never asked for a swimming pool. I asked her why she wanted to know & she told me her favorite hen (named Henny Penny) was found dead in their little pond. She thought maybe she drowned. I hugged her & told her I was sorry. As I walked away from her, a customer sitting right in front of us asked me why Patti was crying. I stopped dead in my tracks & said loud enough for everyone to hear, "Patti's really upset cause she found Henny Penny dead in the pond. We suspect fowl play..."
The whole bar got real quite for a second...then Patti busted out laughing.
