Ham ... mmmmmmmmmmm pigs feet, I'm with Pho on that one, never know who's poo they've walked in.
No freakin' wonder hominy is gross, it's like the Swedish with their lutefisk. Crude made with lye, how can anyone eat it? I figure someone was trying to do away with someone else by using lye to poison them or burn up their innards when Hagar the horrible came along and liked it. He'd probably eat hominy too. And what is tripe (sounds gross) anyway, something you catch when you go snipe hunting? ;D

Isn't tripe the stomach lining or something? I ain't eating that! Or tongue. I'm not tasting anything that is tasting me back! I just can't get into digestive organs. I like to do my own digesting.

all together now, eeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!
this thread is turning out to be a segment on Fear Factor. hahaha....
i don't do innards (offal) or feet nor ears or tail or any other hanging appendages. and most of what i do eat i prefer COOKED. (well done, in fact.) i've tried raw fish (sushi) and had to spit it out. there is some sushi i will eat, but it's the vegetable kind or the COOKED kind.
ok, so as a cavewoman, my genes would never have been passed on....sue me.

Ummm...well... the only sweet bread around here is made with bread dough with extra sugar topped with syrup and cinnamon.
I'm guessing that's not the same thing?

yep kinda good...we had ours deep fried...dont have it anymore cause grandfolks sold the cattle farm and orange groves in and around orlando.
so i suppose most of ya would object to pig brains and eggs...still eatem about 2 times a year...can buy them in a can...odd but diff.
growed up on poke salad also...it was free..just find a patch in the spring and pick it young...had to clean it good...i cleaned a many poke leaves...and boil it it a couple of times....to make sure ya didnt get sick...some good stuff.
oh ya...and hash....throw the whole hog head in...and when all the meat falls off...add the rest of the stuff for some killer hash...kev.

Some people around here eat pork brains but I don't. My mom used to be big on poke salad till dad got sick on it and banned it from the house. You gotta be careful and use immature leaves before the toxin builds up. I'd still rather have lettuce or spinach though. There's some kind of wild greens that grow around here that my mom was wild over too. I have no idea what they are called but I know them when I see them. I can still remember my mom taking me out to a meadow full of them, handing me a paper grocery bag and telling me "fill it up!" It was a yearly ritual. I kind of miss that.

was it called "Lamb's Quarters", Lori? kinda tastes like a mild spinach? that is about the only local (and legal) wild weed i know how to cook and eat around here. i've never heard of poke...sounds tricky, kinda like that Japanese Puffer fish (Fugu). don't fix it right and "sayonara". pigs brains.........ewwwww. with eggs? ?gross me out, barfy! hogs heads stew? ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww. i'd have to be mighty hungry. KD ...you've never heard "poke salad annie"? My parents are partial to canned moose meat. I swear the basment store room looks like a mad scientists lab. GACK.

Moose meat?! Does it taste like chicken? I have no clue what those little greens are called. They're kind of pale green with long skinny scalloped leaves. Taste a little like mustard greens. Lori

Awww KD, I love lamb's quarters, been eating them since I was a kid. First time I did that, my hubby could not believe I was eathing weeds. We always called it pigweed, wasn't until about 10 years ago that I found out it had another name. ;D

Nope, that's not it. These greens had about six long skinny leaves that hugged the ground and a stalk in the center that would sprout up for the flowers to grow on.

cpdad --- we always called it "head cheese" --- throw in the liver , kidneys, and anything else ( all but the ' oink' ) with the head -- then grind it and stuff it like sausage ---was the best anyone ever had --until you told them how it was made !! ;D ;D -- last time I got in on that we butchered 9 of them --- took us three days from start to finish --- said we'd never do that many at one time again !
