What do you mean Cher? I don't have to eat toothpaste, spray cologne about and put on hairspray to mask the nasty odor that she can't stand? (and is allergic to as well) Good grief, good bye.

jeremy you get in here and tell me what step 2 is like!! i have aced this step 1 thing so far but then i'm getting a good dose of nicotine right now. a couple of times i've reached for my purse to find my cigarettes then remember i don't have any. it is a habit. freaky thing is i can smell stuff. that lemon air freshener in the bathroom that i thought didn't work actually has a smell. the smell of the mop water almost killed me the other day! they must have killed 3 million flowers to make that stuff! and those dogs - good gosh would somebody bathe them! peeyew!

wow, it took my nose a lot longer to recover....double edged sword isn't it? good things smell better and bad things, well...bad things smell horrid.
i STILL (after almost 7 years) reach unconsciously for that phantom pack...not often, but enough to make me laugh.
what helped me a lot was chewing on those little plastic bar straws, i must have gone through 1,000 of them.
good luck to you all!

I chewed a lot of peppermint gum, then my teeth hurt so I switched to peppermint breathsavers. After 14 years there are still days I think about it....especially when my daughter hit the high school years.

If I get upset about something, that's when the thought pops into my head ... for about a second, then it's gone. Lemon drops helped me, those tart little buggers really took my mind off of thinking about the smokes. Between those, zyban and the fact that I couldn't stand the smell anymore, it was really easy to quit.
Oh, Kim, don't forget to take those patches off at night, they'll give you some gosh-awful nightmares.
Wow, allergic? She must really be one happy chickie now! ;D

She isn't as bad as she used to be but yep she is happier.
My tanker broke down tonight and I had to have a wrecker tow me home. Dude lights up while I was in his cab, smelled oh so good. I ALMOST asked him for a pope but good 'ol will power was on my side.
Chewing lots of gum on the road.

Sorry just found this thread. Kim don't yell at me I am sorry. well Joi and I have been smoke free for a lil over a month now. We are using the patch and step one is done. Step 2 drops you from 21 mg to 14 mg. I have not noticed any increase in wanting since the decrease.
Yes the patches do give you some really vivid dreams!!!! I no longer wear them at night. Kim I have noticed smells too and tastes oh wow I never knew how much I was missing. The one thing I have noticed the most is how I feel. I have more energy I don't get winded very easy.
I knew I was doing the right thing when 2 weeks into it I had a hacking spell!!! Lord the junk I hacked up but after that I noticed I could breath. That hacking spell was my lungs tossing all that crud out!!!
Baz keep it up. You will be glad you did I am.

keeping track of the money you save on buying ciggs makes that reward SO do-able. i think i've mentioned it in here before, but i also got a lot of online support from this place: www.quitnet.comif you enter your quit date they keep track, here are my stats: 2283 days, 13 hours, 50 minutes and 54 seconds smoke free. 91343 cigarettes not smoked. $15,067.80 and 23 months, 7 days, 18 hours of your life saved. Your quit date: 11/16/2000 cool, huh? KD

Jeremy and I are 4 weeks and 3 days quit today. We've moved from step 1 of the patch, to step 2 of the patch. I keep forgetting to put my patch on??? Maybe that's a good sign. I still have awful triggers... such as a VERY sick child in the middle of the night last night. I was ready to take a 2am trip to 7-11 by myself. I managed to make myself a makeshift bed on the couch so I keep an eye on the little one and close my eyes and ignore the urge. I have alot more triggers than Jeremy does. Even though I was the one who urged we quit, I think he was the one who was actually ready to do so. If it weren't for him I'd have been smoking again already... but I cant let him outdo me!! I was embarrassed to go to work... public schools... smelling like smoke. I would hide my smoking in public in fear that someone from work would see me. The weird thing is that I went 8 hours a day during work without smoking... and 7 hours at night without smoking. I think most of mine is purely psychological. + my parents smoked my whole life, and Jeremy's didnt. Maybe I just remember cigarettes always being there??
I havent noticed an energy increase... probably because I gained 15lbs since Xmas... not completely due to smoking. I have noticed a big thing with smell. I can smell people who smoke, and it smells terrible to me now. But if I see someone smoking then it smells good and I want one. Jeremy and I love Starbucks. I have a fave drink I always get... since I've quit smoking I had to change my drink because it was soooooo sweet I thought I would gag. I figured it must have been from not smoking, my taste buds are coming back. Im trying new foods now that I never cared for before, because they taste different to me. My house smells better to me when I come home. Even with 4 cats!!
If it weren't for Jeremy I never would have come this far. What keeps me going is telling myself. I've already gone this long without it, why start over again??
Thank you all for your encouragement... Best wishes to those still quitting. I think it's probably like alcoholics. Once addicted you are always addicted. It's up to you weather to pick up the habit again and to control your urges and triggers.

Takila, just drop it. I don't have the urge to quit. I like smoking! You think I'm an a**hole now, and you want me to try and quit? We would surely get divorced if I tried to quit. If you keep yelling that our room smells at night because I smoke, you know where the couch is, down stairs. I keep the window open and the fan on in the window. When we met you told me it was ok that I smoke, ok that I even smoke pot, now after years of being with me and telling me smoke doesn't bother you, you want to change me. I stopped smoking pot, not for you but for other reasons. When I say I will smoke weed again in a couple of years you go nuts. If I stop smoking cigarettes will you go ballistic if I fire up a doobie in a couple years? Take your pick woman, tabacco, or weed? Let me quit on my own terms and in my own time. Just think, the longer I smoke, the sooner you won't have to put up with me.. Why do women always say, stuff is ok when you first meet them, but, as soon as they have their claws in you, it's bitch, bitch, bitch. "Stop doing this and stop doing that, your killing yourself" If I want to kill myself slow, let me have the choice without all the freaking drama! This is a picture of me as a baby, I will go outta this life the same way. With something lit.

DOH! I didn't want to start a spouse fight! Cher, I am home every night. If I was single (like Earthdog might be soon) I would go OTR. I was just coming over the divide, only 10 miles from home and SPLAT! lost all my coolant. Dog gone Freightshakers have the engine protector and my engine automatically shut down almost before I could get on the shoulder. (on a uphill grade of course)

If I was single, I'd have ash trays everywhere in the house like the bathroom, kitchen and I would have cigarette packs next to all the ash trays. You didn't start a spouse fight, I'm tired of her telling me to quit, nagging me all the time, when she told me for a few years it didn't bother her. Oh yeah Baz, should have been driving a peterbilt! Here is the "Freightshaker" I drove for a while, And the Peterbilts I also drove, "Large cars"

Edog I agree with you. If your not ready to quit you won't and being nagged won't help. When your ready you will quit.
