YIKES!!!- Ok a couple Years Back I purchased John Sands old grinder- he had gotten from Bearcreek- so this baby has some History- Anyway Mr. Sands told me that it needed a new drive belt- so I went out a got one (that in itself was a task as all I had was Part of a part number) Well I went to change the belt and could not for the life of me figure it out- But the grinder seemed to work fine with the old belt (and some belt dressing) so I put it off till another day- I did contact Mr. Bearcreek- and he had some helpful advise on how to change the belt- But I'm lazy and the old belt worked- Until this weekend- I was hapily grinding away when the machine started to bog down real bad- I just barely touched stone to grinder and the motor just groaned. Well I oiled the motor- wiped down the old belt- and applied more dressing- and all worked for an hour or so- then it started to bog down again- I shut it down and checked the belt- it was so soft and gummy that I new it was time to retire it- It was also cracking very badly (cracks were more than half way through) Well I took the drums off- removed the bearing locking collar set screws- and nothing happened- I pounded and struggled for 2 hours trying to free those collars up- Nothing- So I dripped a couple oil drops down into the set screw holes and went to eat dinner (I was thinking about where I could purchase a bearing puller on a SUnday Night) I came down from diner (Chicken Parm) and picked up the 2 pound crack hammer and the punch pin- set the punch pin in the hole and gave it an almighty wack- almost breaking my hand- the oil had done the trick and I was able to remove the collars with a simple twist!!! Bing Bang Boom the new belt was on and I buttoned everything back up- I also made a mental note to sell this Grinder before the new belt needs replacing!
