Lt. Col. Rick Francona:
The Senate failed to pass a non-binding resolution condemning President Bush’s plan to increase the number of American troops in Iraq by 21,500 over the next few months. The House passed such a resolution on Friday. What does a non-binding resolution accomplish?
It does nothing but harm the morale of American forces in a combat zone and send a message to those we are fighting that the American Congress does not support their troops. It is a cowardly act – if those supporting the resolution truly have the courage of their convictions, they would introduce a bill cutting off funding for the war and force the withdrawal of the troops. Anything less is merely grandstanding at the expense of American troops in harm’s way.
The subtle nicety of the “we support the warriors but not the war” drivel is lost on the bad guys. They see it as a victory in a war they cannot win on the battlefield – it reinforces their will to outlast the Americans. It says to them, “Keep this up and the Americans will call it quits.”
Anyone who believes that passage of the House resolution on Friday and attempts to do the same in the Senate does not hurt American troop morale and embolden the enemy has either never worn a uniform or has forgotten what it’s like to be deployed to a combat zone.
Senators, America needs heroes. Fortunately, it has them - they’re serving in Iraq. If you voted for this resolution, you’re not fit to be among them.

Space: I totally agree with you. Treason is defined as giving aid and comfort to the enemy. Those resolutions are treason as they give our enemies heart and comfort them with the knowledge that a good many of our scumbag politicians do not support our troops and are, in fact, working against our citizen soldiers to make their job more dangerous. Were this WWII, those politicians would be thrown in jail!..mel

I can't believe they're wasting time with non-binding resolutions. They're in power again and they waste time on stunts. No wonder they lost power in the first place.

The negativity seems to be a sign of the times. If you don't like something fine. Come up with another plan, improve the one that you don't like. Do something positive. Remember the old days when people would state "if I'm elected (insert position), I'll do this....". Now there are just a bunch of mean a$$ people out there. Now they all go by the "he who slings the most mud will win". Just plain sad.
As a family we pick one charity that we all chip in to give to at Christmas time. This year, mom/dad/all the kids picked the USO. The least we can give our soldiers that have put them selfs in harms way is our support. God bless Lt. Col. Francona!!

Cowardly, not at all!
Cowardly would be to continue to do nothing and blindly follow Bush like Lambs to the Slaughter.
When something is wrong, you have a moral obligation to oppose.
We support our troops and unlike the current administration are concerned for their well being.

Cowardly would be to drive off a bridge drunk and leave the passenger in your car to die while you go home and change your clothes and sober up. A moral obligation would be to NOT keep electing this same person to the senate.

I can't believe they're wasting time with non-binding resolutions. They're in power again and they waste time on stunts. No wonder they lost power in the first place. But they are not "in power". They have a slim majority in one branch of government, and it is pretty clear that they have very limited means to implement the mandate of folks who elected them. I am not sure I have yet heard a good plan for m either side of the debate. SUre is a mess.

I'm a Vet and have always supported our troops no matter what the idiots in Washington do or think. In WWII MacArthur wanted to do in the Chinese and he was fired.Patton wanted to get rid of the Russians and he was killed. Korea was another joke as the military had there hands tied and couldn't go after the enemy when they fled the country. Viet Man another atrocity.Same as Korea,,,,STOP guys!!! We can't go after them. What do all of the above have in common? Politicians sticking there dumb ass noses into a war they created, have no idea how to fight it and don't want to piss the people back home off too much or they won't get elected again!! You CAN NOT fight a politically correct war with the entire world looking over your shoulder thriving on and exploiting every single mistake you make.Which brings up another asshole move someone made. Embedded reporters!! I don't know how many of you were in a combat position but I swear if I were in this mess we have in Iraq, the first one I would put a bullet in is a news reporter and then his/her camera man! Who we kill is OUR business! Why we kill them is OUR business!! How we treat them is OUR business!! I am so sick and tired of these pantie waste civilians and politicians alike who get upset when civilians are killed during battle! THIS IS WAR!!! Not a tea party!! If we don't kill them they will for sure kill us! Men,women and children ARE killing our troupes! Why the hell don't the French and other chicken shit countries make a fuss over that? Because they hate us as much as the people we are fighting! I'm not a Democrat,Republican,on the left or the right.I AM an American damn it and we would all do well if we had Americans in Washington instead of politicians!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am sick and tired of being told what I can say about any given interest group too!I say call a spade a spade and live with it! My family and I were at an amusement park in Mass. several years ago and a secret service man came up to me and asked if I would like to shake Senator Kennedy's hand.I told him in these exact words,,"I would not wast my spit on that drunken, murdering son of a bitch". Two secret service men grabbed my by both arms and literally dragged me across the park, took me to a remote area (where I thought I would be executed) and told me to stand there with them. They put my back up against the brick wall of a building and made me put my palms flat up against the wall!We stood there for about 30 minuets and then they escorted me back to my hysterical wife and 3 crying children! Shortly after I saw 2 secret service men hauling some other poor slob off behind the buildings! I guess he didn't like murdering drunks either!! I guess neither of us were politically correct but I'll bet you a dollar to a donut that the other old guy that got shanghaied was a Vet too!! How about the rights of the Iraqi prisoners?? Rights? What Rights? Did any of the people we were at war with or are now at war with treat our GI's like they are supposed too?If we stopped pampering the prisoners and and beat the shit out of them, starved them and made them do 18hrs of hard labor every day you bet your ass our enemies would start to think twice about abusing our guys and gals!! One group I would love to go to war with in this Country is the ACLU! I think all the members of the ACLU should be hunted down and killed.Or better yet, send them to Iraq to tend to the prisoners or Cuba for that matter! Make sure they have embedded news reporters reporting they're every move! I've had it with ALL these politicians.Bush is nothing but a rich spoiled little kid who has always had his way.Gore and Hillery are nut cases.Keary (spelling) doesn't know which side of his pronounced flip flop jaw to talk out of! The way I feel, and I mean this sincerely folks.I think it's time for all of us to stop being Democrats and Republicans and become Americans again! Does it really matter which "side" gets in office? Not in my book,,,,,as long as they are Americans and NOT politicians! connrock

mel, I try not to and don't usually speak my mind but I love this country and people like those on this board who try their best to help one another. THAI IS what America is all about,,,,,giving, helping, loving and the freedom to do so. It's not about the civil rights of convicts, child molesters, mass murders, illegal aliens and the like. It's about you and me,the common working slobs trying to make a living and raise a good family, helping people in need and worshiping as we see fit. It's about taking a walkin the wild and looking for that special dirty old rock without having to be worried about getting sued for some trivial occurrence! What we have become makes me VERY sad and where we are heading is even worse!I don't know the answers to solving our problems and maybe there really are none but I would still give my life freely for this Country in hope that maybe some day we could be the great people we used to be. Maybe a good start to solve our problems might be a 2 day hunting season on lawyers. That "herd" could use a good thinning out!!!

I am not sure I have yet heard a good plan for m either side of the debate. SUre is a mess. I disagree that they are not in power. A slim majority in the Senate, yes, but a comfortable majority in the House. I realize this is all considered one branch. But with many Republicans (especially in the House) worried about their jobs, the Dems are now in control. Plus you forgot about the 4th branch of government - the media. If we throw out the judiciary - which in my opinion is a toss-up. Bush is out-numbered 2 to 1. Media and Legislative vs. executive. In 2008 it will be even worse (or better depending on your point of view) as the Republicans lose further seats in both houses and most likely the presidency as well. And probably deservedly so, because this administration pandered to the left, the media, and to public opinion. As connrock said, rather than going into Iraq and giving them hell until they begged for mercy, we went in and tried to be as politically correct as possible rather than kicking but and getting the job done. Now our troops are paying the price, Iraqis are paying the price, our nation and the world as well. This all could have been over and done with, but we chose the soft-shoe approach. That's what happens when you don't learn from history.

I've been saying for years that I wish ballots would have a box at the bottom for "None of the above."
When I was 18 I had high hopes for voting for the best candidates. Then I started settling for the least of the all the available evils. Now they're about all even and there's still not many people running I'd like to see in office. Most of the time I don't even bother.

Sure would be nice if we had a visionary to pick from once in a while instead of the same old - same old. But that's the problem with the 2 party system. Until we get rid of it, there is no room for visionaries.

lonewolf, I would LOVE to be President of this Country but I don't have millions and millions of dollars to run a campaign for a $200,000.00/year job!!!!! POWER is the name of their game as they have everything and the only thing left for them is to rule the world like other madmen have i the past!! They are all so far removed from the simple American people, don't have a single clue what our wants and needs are and worst of all they don't care about it!!All they care about is POWER!! The rich will control this Country until there is another revolution where people are fed up enough to fight for their rights again as Americans. This may sound a little radical but how else can the public get to these people?Have you ever tried to contact one of the politicians, either State or Federal? Good luck! I have and gave up on all of them.Even the ones I "thought" would listen! We have trillions of dollars to give to other countries,go to war and just piss away. How about our Vet's?Our homeless? Our seniors who are freezing right now eating dog and cat food??
If you had food for your family and the people next door were starving,,,,,Who would you feed first?
Gotta go to work now so I can pay my taxes!! LOL

I am with Connrock all the way. I read several places where the troops in Iraq feel we need more troops and we need to be there. Why don't we listen to them. The Gov. didn't listen to the guys in the field In Viet Nam, and that didn't turn out so well. I feel if we pull out and things aren't resolved we should pull all aid and not deal with that country. But we won't do that, because of precious oil and $$$$. I have a lot more to say, but I have to get ready to maybe go to work, I never know if I will have work or not. I don't believe in parties, and I inquire about canidates, and vote on information I get and consider viable. I don't listen to campaigns, I pay attention to what is going on and if I don't like it, next election I don't vote for whoever was in. Terry

Kind of off Topic, but Toad you mentioned the Media as the 4th branch. Did anyone catch Frontline the other night on PBS? About how the press is now being sent to jail becasue they wont reveal their sources to the gov't? A guy my age is now serving the longest any reporter has in the history of America. I think its only like 6months so far. And he suppose to be let out in a couple months. But it was disturbing because all he did was video tape a protest in San Fran. Which at one point got out of control and a police car got burned. The feds say all the wanted was him to tell them who burnt the car. But it was a bunch of people who he had no contact with and were not part of the organizers who contracted him to film the protest. But the feds wanted all that info. Big time fishing expedition becasue it was a anti war protest. And Im glad he stood up and said no to the Fascism that’s taking control of our country. How is finding a few people who started a fire during a protest fighting terrorism? Even if that fire destroyed a piece of Gov't property. Who the heck paid for it?
