Isn't it odd that a member of the Senate or the House of Reps can get an appointment on the same day they call in all at taxpayer expense but the poor can't get anything........The very people who can affors it don't have to pay anything while it cost the poor everything.

What a sad, sad story. It has been said, "we reap what we sow". This is what happens when money, power and paperwork become more imporant than people. It happens everyday all over the world. Those of us who are wealthy (and it may surprise you to see how little you need to own and have available to you to be in the top 10% wealthiest people in the world) have a responsibility to care for the poor. If we don't, if our governments won't, who will? Mike

If that family is truly poor, it IS very sad. If that family is abusing the welfare system, than I personally don't have any sympathy for the fact that she couldn't take him to the dentist. I, unfortunately, have become very cynical of the welfare system and the people on it because of my job. I would say at least half if not more of the people on welfare are scamming one way or another. And the computer systems for welfare (and I have seen it personally) have glitches in them that authorities are slow to fix. Participants are getting more benefits than what they are entitled to, or in somes cases, are not even eligible for. Then other programs, like prescriptions for the elderly on fixed incomes and who worked their whole lives contributing to this society, go without! Don't get me wrong, it is very sad and sickening if a child dies because someone couldn't get help, but, if fraudulent use of the system was slowed down (and prosecuted), the people that really need the help could get it! People need to help themselves, too, and not soley rely on the government to do it! There's way too many people out there relying on the government to take care of them and there's way too many bleeding-heart liberals out that think it, too! I work too hard for my wages and I hate the fact that my taxes are getting misused! Americans need to take their blinders off, get out of their middle-class neighborhoods and see that their taxes are getting used improperly and criminally in some cases!!! Because they don't have poor people in their neighborhood, they assume they are getting taken care of and don't question how their taxes are getting spent!

If I may, just for a moment, beg for us to have a little compassion for our fellow human beings. This family, welfare or not, lost a child. The death of any child is a tragedy no matter what the circumstances of the parents. I don't care if I get get called a bleeding heart, this is a sad story.

TOO sad what is happening to the poor-and all of us really- What Takila points out is a very sad truth- Being poor has become such a profitable business that the REAL people that need the help are often not getting it (I don't think she meant to imply that this family was scamming the system)--And Herm you are right- A family lost a young child- Perhaps the next George Washington Carver, or Henery Ford, or Eli Whitney, or George Washinton, or Abe Lincoln- Who knows- and we never will cause somewhere in all this crap Someone died form the Stupidest thing!!! My prayers go out to this poor family.

Thanks, Stefan, for clarifying my thoughts.........no matter who you are, it's sad to lose a child. And what makes it worse, it was probably preventable! Because of the mis-use of government funds by receipients and the welfare system and the politicians, the money is not there and health services don't want to deal with all the red tape. If someone is eligible for medical benefits they should also have basic dental services available to them. Maybe not cosmetic services like whitening, but for cleaning and fillings, etc. An infected tooth can harm you just as quick if not quicker than a cut finger or punctured foot. My whole point of my post is that there is so much abuse of the welfare system on both sides. It was originally started to temporarily help legitimately "POOR" people and/or people down on their luck. It wasn't created for long term use, or as a career. But it goes on everyday, in every city of the U.S.! And I guess unless you work with it, you'll never have a clue what really goes on. My mom gave 28 years of her life working for the city. She's now retired. She paid plenty into Social Security, her retirement fund, etc. Now, the city has to do their budget and decides retirees will have to pay more for their health insurance! She's on a fixed income. She has many medical needs due to her health. And then you got the family with 1 mom and 6 kids from 4 different dads, mom is only 35 years old, and then her kids are starting to have kids, so mom never got her high school diploma because she had to drop out of school because she had her first kid when she was 15 years old. So guess what? The taxpayers take care of her and her kids and grandkids.........and she gets FREE MEDICAL BENEFITS AND $800.00 WORTH OF FOODSTAMPS and because one of the kids are disabled, she get's another $700.00 cash benefits for taking care of the disabled child and then gets housing. And then she's getting child support from some of the dads.....and then she calls me up and has the gall to say I'm not doing my job good enough and she pays MY SALARY! (Who's paying my salary? Yes, taxpayers are paying my salary, but she's not, she doesn't work. I'm paying myself, too, out of my taxes!). I've always made sure I've had a job, that I have had health/dental insurance through my employer, that I've never had to rely on public assistance. I happen to be proud of that. Yes, I know participants that come in to get aid may not be too proud, but as long as they are telling the truth and don't lie and abuse the system, I have no problems with that. And when I get a client telling me they were on it for awhile, but got into school and got a good job and they are now taking care of themselves and their kids, you can tell they are proud, too!
So, forgive me for having a bad attitude. My thoughts and prayers go out to that family.

And we have this knee jerk reaction against Hillary Clinton who's biggest crime seems to be a desire to provide Universal Health care for all Americans. csroc
