A friend told me he uses the coarse grit for a period twice, or more, longer than usually advised. He says the grit breaks down to a finer size in use and , in effect, becomes like a second stage grit thereby saving some bux in this increasingly expensive hobby of ours. Sounds clever. Any comments?

I have run #60 grit for 30 days without recharging..I have good results and often skip the #220 stage. As I understand it..grit does not "break down" but rather loses it's "sharpness" or "abrasiveness"..this is why ungraded grit is less than 1/2 effective.. The grit works on itself as well as the rock..I run 1. #60 for 30 days 2. #600 for 10 days 3. #1000 for 7 days 4. TXP for 7 days 5. ivory snow wash for 1 day
