Pretty, everytime I see Birds of Paradise I think of my grandmother. She had them all over her place in Long Beach. Nice blossoms, nice memories, thanks Ed.

Ah, what are those delicate tree blossoms... cherry? plum? Those don't usually bloom until early to mid-May in these parts.

Oh great, another season to take up more of my time. Clean the pond and get things ready to dump the fish back in it, build another shed, clean up the whole yard, get the lawn mowers ready and working, countless hours of cleaning my Harley, not to mention the hours of riding. oh and then theres work, I'm gonna get called back any day now. Yeah, I love spring...

You forgot back injuries. Fact: Back injuries increase in frequency in spring. So stretch those muscles before pulling those big weeds, and I speak from experience. The blossoms are plum. As a footnote to this post, I noticed in Texas that all the grass was brown and asked if it is usually green at this time. Silly me, I was told it will be green in a month or two. Out here, our grass is green now and in a month or two it will be brown. Weird!

how DID you know that BOP is my favorite flower?? i know they are common as muck in your part of the world, Stoner....but they are rare here, only seen in flower shops.
the weather forecast is looking up and "they" say it should be 60 by friday here. that will start melting the remaining three feet of snow in my yard.......end eDog, you're right....i was just looking at the mower the other day.
i have a yard full of sticks to pick once the snow cover melts. but, i'm looking forward to the day i can open the windows and smell fresh air!
thanks for the pics,
KD

Ed, if it's always nice & warm/hot in California how do you know when it's spring? Is there a difference in the seasons?
Here we have almost winter, winter, still winter and roadwork - you can tell when it's still winter (spring) when it smells like poop outside...

Of course we have seasons here Tweetie. We know it's winter when it's cold, never gets above 60 degrees, sometimes it rains, other times it's so clear you can see mountains 60 miles away and it's the best time to come to San Francisco to do some sight seeing. Then when the birds start singing and the blossoms start showing and it's still sunny and clear with temps getting into the low 70's, it's spring. As summer approaches the air gets hazy, temps warm up to the 80's-90's, you can't see the mountains 5 miles away, and in San Francisco the fog is so heavy you can't see your car across the street in the mornings and evenings and when the sun does break through the fog, it cold and windy. Then in fall, the leaves on the trees turn to all kinds of pretty colors, the skies are very hazy and the air is still(we call this Indian summer) and then we go back to winter. Isn't this the way it's supposed to be?

Only in our wildest dreams (speaking for those who live in the snowbelt and don't like it).

Oh, yeah. I remember Birds of Paradise. Brings me back to my childhood in So. Calif. What are your feelings on geraniums, Stoner? They love them back here. I hated them when I lived in Calif. but they were everywhere since they seem to thrive in any climate. Needless to say, I won't ever have any in my garden. To me they were an ugly flower, and I love flowers!

When we went to Disney it was weird to hear Christmas music while wearing shorts outside...

When I lived there, it felt like Christmas, but once I moved back to WI and then saw a real "white Christmas", it is funny to see Christmas decorations out there amongst the palm trees and green grass!

Takilasunrise, I HATE GERANIUMS! They stink, they are great places for snails to hide, and the flowers are ugly.

Ed, SCENTED GERANIUMS are pretty cool...more like herbs than geraniums.
