It was cold enough to make pipes burst here and up at the ranch which is very unusual. Second coldest winter since we moved here like 35 years ago. Flat destroyed millions in crops here in Cally. Also read it's so cold and so much snow pack in Alaska that the moose are being driven down from the hills into the towns where they're causing lots of car accidents. I think the slant of the articles written by news agencies etc depends on which side of the" Global Warming" issue the agency supports. Unbelievable bias in the media these days! Used to be news writers reported just the facts. Now, it's just the facts that support their political agenda. Heck, when I was in college, all the magazines and papers were shouting the world was going into an "Ice Age" in 30-40 years which would be now! Crops would fail and we'd all starve. Makes the papers no more than garbage to line bird cages with in my view!. And, that Gore is such a hypocritical diaperload! Actually better if it warms than cools. You can deal with warm but cold that destroys all the crops you can't fix. Everyone just dies! Last serious cooling spell almost wiped out mankind. Shoot, there's a good chance that the little global warming caused by mankind is actually saving us from "global cooling" *L*....mel

For the last week or so here it's been in the 80s everyday and it's only March! I dread seeing what this summer will be like. We'll be over 100 from May 1 till the end of October if this keeps up.

I heard that on the weather channel a week or so ago and I'd have to agree with it for up here. We had less than two weeks that got below zero, almost unheard of up here in January and February. And amazingly, despite record depths of frost (last measurement I heard was at 11 feet deep) there were very few problems with pipes busting. We hit 58° today, it was just gorgeous outside, I saw quite a few running around in flip flops, shorts and t-shirts. It's such a mind game though, 40° to us now is beautiful, 40° in October is absolutely freezing! ;D I just LOVE El nino winters.

Ya, we had that Frost too Mel, wasnt hit as bad as your guys in California. But They lost allot crops here too. But we also had 99degree temps last week before "spring" came. Then the last two days we been getting hammered by 3+inches of rain, and back down to below 50temps.
Global warming or not, something is not right with our planet right now. Thats for sure.

This has been one of the rainiest and gloomiest winters I can remember while living here. It has rained every day for the last 8 days straight and it's still raining right now with no signs of letting up by Monday. Climate change is having a devistating effect in northern B.C. with the continued worsening of the mountain pine beetle infestation that is spreading like wildfire here. Winters are no longer cold enough to kill off the little buggers so they just keep mulitplying and spreading out of control, destroying hundreds of thousands of hectares of prime forrest ecosystem.

That is what global warming is all about. The overall global warming trend creates wierd weather all around. Cold in places that don't get it. Extremes in everything, rain drought. You can expect it to get even weirder; no one knows what to predict as there is no recorded history of what things are like with average global temps being this high. One thing I have noticed is that the winter wasn't cold enough long enough to kill the flies, spiders and ticks. They usually are not a problem till late April May. April was the only month that was perfect here; not to hot not to cold almost no bugs, everything green and a few bulbs flowering. Guess I just have to learn to deal with the bugs year round. I wonder if we will see more tornados; they are really uncommon here; we have no warning system (except the tv). Man made warming or just part of million year cycle; one thing is for sure it's not the CT I grew up in or my father remembers.

lonewolfrockhound, Ive seen that before and think its just as funny. Becasue its about politics, not facts. Which could be debated and argued just as they people in that doc are doing for one side.
My point with this article is about awareness. Though the article touches on the GW topic, its not the meat and bones of the topic.
regardless of what we think one thing should mean or not. Our gov't and its people, or any gov't and its people for that matter can change an environment. ON many levels. We've been doing it for eons. Now, people are just trying to better understand why our environment is being effected on a scale that humans in recorded history has yet to really witness. Or if we witnessed it before, its not being translated, or interpreted to show actual facts. What does a 2year do when they have a question, why, why, why? Becasue in earth time, we are all 2year olds or younger.
As Im not trying to make this a global warming debate, but doesn’t it make you wonder why the hottest temps in man's recorded history have taken place in the last 20years? What is causing the temp to rise then? Geologically there nothing that is doing that right now. Its atmospheric. Who has allot of control over what goes into the atmosphere? And it’s a proven fact, pollutants are not good for the environment. But we are polluting just as much as we did 30years ago. If not worse.
But do we grow older and forget how it was when growing up? I thought forever, the East Verde River would flow, a small river ive been visiting since I was but 2years old with my family. Well that came to an end over 7years ago. Were did it go? can it just be blamed on a drought? And though the fact is here in the SW, USA. We may be looking at a 50+year drought, and only being in the 12th year. But, they wont lift and say we are out of a drought. becasue its evident, even with rainfall. The facts say otherwise. If more people hauled their own water like I do. It would be a great concern becasue your forced to conserve or at least understand your consumption by seeing it, vers reading a monthly bill. Ever took a shower in your home and actually ran out of water? That’s a daily concern for me in the summer. And I see waste daily by people and the Gov't in that regard. Rained wonderful the last two days. And I saw a golf coarse watering its coarse. What the F? There’s no one there to simply turn it off for the day, epically since we had a 2week warning we were gonna get hit by rain? We are conveinace hors, and that will be are downfall if the planet decides we are full of it. There only been a few extinctions related to cosmic forces, all others were planetary.
The drought doesn’t stop the masses from wanting to move here to get away from natural disasters and bad weather in general. Our population in AJ have only been getting larger and larger over the past 10years during the winter. Is that just becasue of population, or more people tied of dealing with bad weather?
the only truth in Global warming in my opinion comes from what you experience around your home. Not what any media outlet has to say, unless there are actually facts about weather. Not facts about why people are the way they are. We all know we are all full of it when it comes to that.
I believe that doc touches on many problems, not just why some people think global warming is true. Or why some people say its not. Its all the same in my opinion in stuff like that. Has no real merit as one would say for the exact opposite. Who the heck really knows? I don’t, but I know by observing the weather around my home something is not right with our planet right now. Yes, we get Tornadoes in Arizona, they been occurring more and more in the last 10years. My neighbor(lee) has been living up on the hill were am at since 1947(shes 97 now). She stated to me during our monsoon last year. When are neighborhood got hit by a storm which almost every home was damaged and we lost power for over 30hours. She had never seen a storm that fierce in the 50+years she’s been up on the hill. I take that fact in much greater than any other.
besides, read what the UK has to say about harmful drugs. Which do you believe?

Something is not right with the planet? Hmmmm....well, I certainly don't agree. In fact, I feel just the opposite. I think EVERYTHING is just right with the planet. Further, I think that man's recorded history of the planet is about as big as the length of an amoeba compared to the entire record so these quasi-scientists that stand up and pronounce doom and gloom based on just a few centuries of data....that happens to be misleading....are just spewing so much hot water vapor. If they really want to stop the warming trend....maybe they should shut their yaps. IMHO.

And, yes, in case you're wondering, I'm a passionate ANTI-global warming kinda guy.
With a degree in microbiology and teaching sciences at the school I work at, I consider myself a quasi-scientist as well. The difference between me and those that are on the global warming boat is that I hate bad science....they embrace it.
That's crap.

The world may very well be warming up, but it is doubtful that man is the cause. Just cycles, man. Sometimes the world is a lot colder - ice ages, or a lot warmer, like when the Vikings were farming in Greenland. The only reason the Hollywood celebs and politicians are worried about it is because they're gonna lose they're beach front houses. Bunch of self-serving liars in my opinion.

Agreed. Plus, there's BIG MONEY in the global warming scare. The link I supplied is long, but very interesting and describes EXACTLY what is happening. I'm about as scared of global warming as I am of the crud under my toenails.

I have heard in the media a few times that some scientists believe this is part of the natural order of things. It's hard to tell because there hasn't been a written history long enough to document an ice age cycle.
Either way all I know is it's generally hotter and more uncomfortable around here in the summer than when I was a kid. A lot of times in the summer I seriously think about moving somewhere where the humidity isn't so bad. I can take the heat as long as I can sweat and get cool.

Nobody can deny that we are buggering up the planet quite nicely any way you look at it. Human activity IS having a major impact on the global ecosystem, no two ways about it.

When I say "not right" I mean by recorded standards. Not a personal opinion on the people, a gov't, a wild weather storm or what ever.
And I don’t support global warming, nor do I support stupid wasteful consumption as most Americans do. But I read the facts.
And people can disagree as we all know. It kind of hard to believe what one quasi-scientists will deduce from facts, than another will deduce. And to believe either side in my opinion has no merit again. They are just pointing fingers saying its someone else’s fault.
But then are the facts not, facts? Is it just a passive approach to something one thinks its not their responsibility to make better? Your telling me all the trash I see each year only getting worse in the Desert is just the planets responsibility to fix and clean up?
Plus, it seems the folks who do not believe our planet is warming up. tend to point fingers at people that have nothing to do with it. Hollywood? I didn’t know ruters is Hollywood. Its misleading on both sides, you cant dispute that.
Lonewolf, you brought up the link which "tells the truth" about Global warming. But there are no real facts in that doc. At least that tell a tale of natural process. They don’t know any more than the latter. So I should believe them becasue you are a quasi-scientists yourself. I find that eats at the meat of my point and why I responded as I did to your link. Its the same thing you and I our spouting. We just have sides that are indefinable to the planet.
So I personally try to understand more about why we act this way. This discussion in itself brings clarity in my opinion just to remind people we are all the same, and have the same problems. Just some folks tend to push one thing over another in most cases only for the dollar sign in their eye.
Unfortunately, both sides can benefit in a monetary since. But the facts will show the people who make the most money, and have the most to lose in the subject. Are the ones who would be deemed most responsible to causing the problem. And heck no their not gonna fix it. And heck no their not gonna sit by and let anyone try and say there is a problem. Easier to say something is broken than to try and fix it. Let alone try to understand how it broke, or why its broke. That’s my point. Wether its large group of quasi-scientists, or plain scientists, someone is trying to understand it. Does that make is untrue becasue no one known? Does anywhere here really know? Like me, I feel I really know. But my world is obviously different than yours. And please don’t take offence, I just like to discuss when a topic is taken further.
