Have you ever heard of the Marfa lights? There was some discussion about this strange event before we all took off to WWR. Condor, Jamie, and myself were passing through Marfa on our way to WWR at around 9PM and Condor, who has been down there many times, asks us if we want to stop to check out the lights. So we stop at an observing area that was built just so people could get off the road and have a great viewing area. It is the strangest thing. As you look out on the horizon, these balls of light just appear and float around, sometimes lurching upwards or side to side, then hover for a bit before dimming out and disappearing. Nobody's been able to figure out what causes the lights. Some say it's headlights from traffic on distant freeways, but having seen it for myself, there's now way it comes from cars. And besides, the lights have been observed for over 100 years Here's a link to a Google page on the marfa lights. Check it out, it's very cool. www.google.com/search?client=safari&rls=en&q=marfa+lights&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8

Sounds like it was fun to see them in person. I've never really seen anything up in the night sky that has really freaked me out like that. Maybe someday.

I'm guessing here stefan but I'd say it's about 40 miles. It isn't a bad drive at all. Stoner is right, there's a nice observing spot built with restrooms and scopes set up (if you can get to them thru the kids.....lol). I always bring binoculars and they are quite bizarre. They don't zip around or anything.....more like hang there in the shadow of the mountain range or near the top of the mountains. Sometimes it's just a single light, then suddenly 2-3 more will pop up and then they all kinda just as suddenly fade out. Humans are pretty smart eh? Can't figure out what lights are on a mountain top after all this time....lol The lights have been studied by academia and I think governmental agencies and they got nuthin'. It's always worth a trip out to Marfa to see the lights.

Yea, talk about weird! We're on the freeway out in the middle of nowhere, and I mean NOWHERE, when all of a sudden we pass this place all lit up at night, and there's glass shelves lined with high heeled shoes! We all just looked at each other and asked, What the Hell was that? I guess it's one of those, "Only in Texas" type of things.

There are similar lights here in Australia, known as the "Min Min Lights". They our in western Queensland mear the town of Winton. No one knows what they but they have also been reported for over 100 years. I have never seen them. I haven't been out that way. If you are curious, just google it. Mike
