Wow, that made me cringe and the parents need an ass wooping! And we wonder where innocent children learn this garbage. Ed M.

Have to chime in here.. I predict lots of therapy for that child's future... Starting with speech therapy... "What's the difference?" Well... to me there's a huge difference between calling someone an A$$hole and calling someone the 'N' word... I've always thought of that word as insidious... It's original use was as a label that denoted someone's property... and it became a mechanism of oppression after slavery... I was born in the 60's when certain groups of people were fighting to be recognized as human beings here in the US... Many, many good people gave their lives in the fight against discriminiation... I will not dishonor their legacy by using that word. I have lots of friends who happen to be black... they still deal with discrimination everyday.. we talk about it.. We all think it's important to discuss because true change begins with the individual. I feel sorry for that child.. she will have to unlearn what she is being taught in order to function in today's society.. I feel sorry for the parents.. they are obviously ignorant. Earth - You are right on the money brother... This type of thing needs to be exposed and talked about or things will never change... Be good to each other... Dan

Takila, Racism and predjudice are the same, personal preferences, racism, and prejudice are not. There is a huge difference. Someone may hire a younger prettier female rather than an older heavy set female when they are both equally qualified but I very seriously doubt it goes any further than aesthetics. Sure people are discriminated against every day because their looks or how much they weigh but I would be willing to bet the discriminators don't wish those people harm, or hate them to the point of teaching it to their kids. I really don't understand where that kind of hatred comes from but like Rallyrocks said, it is the core or nature of predjudism and its extremely irrational and violent in a lot of instances.

My first quesion is: Why is this video posted on a rock hobby board, or anywhere else for that matter?? It is not funny, nor is it forgivable. Second: There is never, ever a reason to appreciate racism in any form, be it humor or not, and, there is never, ever a reason to justify it by saying "oh, it's just a little kid who does not know what she is saying". The so called 'adults' used this simply to see if they could get a rise... True, the adults may not be overtly trying to teach the child racism, but if people think it's funny, that's exactly what she will learn from it....Frankly, it does not belong here, or anywhere else. Hope you keep this site for rock hobbyists, after all, that's what it's for..

This is the one section that was created for people to discuss anything else other than rocks, but you are absolutely right, there is no valid reason to appreciate racism in any form.

marandy, Glad this post got you to join.
I think it's a sure bet that even though we all like rocks and this is a rock forum, we all have other things to say and have other intrests, than just rocks. Didn't you read what section of this board you were going into?
There is a reason to justify this video for the child. The child, I don't think knows what she is saying.
Again,
It does belong in this section of the board, it doesn't belong in, General Rocks Board or Members Photographs. It belongs right here! This video has brought alot of buzz on the internet and 2 pages worth right here to our home on RTH. Sorry to put a bad taste in your mouth so soon, but please don't come here and say that something has no place to be on this forum. Not a good way to start your first post on this forum. We talk about alot of things in this section from birds to astronomy to fat chicks, motorcycles, kids and whatever else goes on in our lives that we like to share with our friends here at RTH

Is this video racist or child abuse? I submit that it is both. How much beer were mom and dad drinking while they filmed it? Isn't there a brief shot of a beer bottle?

Well I went back and looked, I think it is actually a cell phone or something in one of the idiots hands. Nonetheless, glorifying an innocent child mispronouncing words that are so low class and offensive is abuse just the same. What if this girl grows up to be squared away and wants to run for office. This video will arise on the news and her character will be defamed. Thanks mom and dad.

I don't know if it's child abuse but I do agree it's glorifying an innocent child mispronouncing words. What would be funny to me is if they contracted a bunch of work on their house, like to redo the kitchen, bathroom and the whole crew was black. That would pay them back.

Yeah Earthdog maybe child abuse is a little harsh. Child abuse in the physical sense is punishable by law. For these parents to go to jail over this would be stupid and Orwellian but the psychological aspect of it is a little:
Take your pick from Thesaraus.com:
Main Entry: abuse Part of Speech: noun 2 Definition: harm Synonyms: crime, damage, defilement, harm, hurt, impairment, injury, malevolence, maltreatment, manhandling, misdeed, offense, pollution, violation, wrongdoing

If teaching your kid bad words was a crime then most of the 10 to 13 y.o. kids around here, their parents should be in jail. It used to be when I was a kid and got yelled at by an adult, you said sorry and took off, hoping they wouldn't tell my parents. Today they will flip you off and swear at you and then tell you, you aren't their parent and to f-off.

What I don't get is why aren't the parents correcting her when she's saying it wrong? Saying it wrong only once should have made them correct her...

OK, OK, I stand corrected, you can discuss anything you want on this website. I am probably not the first person to have to take a day or two to figure out the intricacies of this site. If offended you, I apologize. But, I stand by my statement that there is no excuse or justification for racism, or the appearance of racism. Yes, the child is innocent.. We all agree on that.. But, after so much talk about how funny it is, when she gets old enough to realize what she sounded like, how will she feel about it being aired nation wide. How would you feel if it were your child?? Would you be proud to have it spread across the nation and maybe the world?? The parents know EXACTLY what they intended to portray.
All I am saying is everytime I think we are ahead of the racism and hatred, we take 30 giant steps backward by making something like this video a big deal. It should be in the trash.. And, for the 99.9% of you who also agree that this is not appropriate, I still ask, what is it doing on this website or any website?

One more thought, after reading through all the responses again: Rocky Racoon said it better than me.. She said exactly what I tried to say.. And, I appreciate Blarney Stone's response very much. Racism DOES need to be discussed and there are forums to do exactly that. In order to accomplish anything from the discussion, it must be constructive, fair and honest. I did not see any of that criteria in the video.
I spent my entire career training people on civil rights, diversity and the importance of common dignity for everyone, so I do have some idea of what is right and what is not.. I think it is unanimous that everyone who responded thinks this video is trash.
Final question? What color am I? If you are African American, do you think wiggly squiggles is really funny? Put yourself there and ask again...

Marandy, you didn't offend me in any way. My point was, and I think you got my point, that we all like to talk about other things besides rocks. Current events and weird stuff.
I agree with you on that statement. It does need to be discussed though. In every forum, and in every walk of life. There will be no end to racism. everyone is racist to some point. Everyone is prejudice to a certain degree. I am to a certain point. Let me ask this, when I see a 400 pound person going through McDonald's drive through and getting 2 bags of food and they have their hand in the frys before they are even away from the window, I think negative thoughts about that person. Am I a racist or am I prejudice? I don't like to see kids riding a crotch rocket, going through town at 90mph and wearing shorts and a muscle shirt with flip flops, Am I a racist or am I prejudice? Why is it that black people can say nigger and call themselves niggers all the time but if a white person says it, we are racist? Why is there a "Black History" month and white people don't have a "White History" month? I know, I know, we celebrate white people all year long, like Columbus Day and stuff, but that is for everyone, not just whites. White people are not just the only racist people around. Is it because the parents are racist? Makes ya just say hmmm.

Baz, Marandy is my Mom, she reads the forum mainly because of me. Since I joined, seems like if she wants to find out anything about me she comes here. LOL, since this is where I spend a lot of my time. Don't get me wrong, she likes rocks too, just not quite as much as I do.

Jamie, I was just curious, nothing malicious. Sometimes without the subtle intricacies of body language and facial movement things get misunderstood in the cyber world. I can't stand arguing, so just know that when I chine in it isn't to start any wars. PS Welcome Marandy!
