Like a lot of folks in this state I have a job. I work, they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to get that paycheck, I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem. What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?? Please understand, I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sitting on their ass. Could you imagine how much money the state would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png) ?

If you've been convicted of drug related charges, you can't get assistance in WISC.

I know, I know, Stefan, at least it's something.........all welfare recipients should be monitored as closely as people on probation/parole or receiving unemployment benefits!

I think that's a great idea. Have the whole family tested so they can't send Grandma out to get welfare for the rest of them. I agree though that it doesn't do enough. Recently some people up the street got kicked out of their house. They had a bunch of kids so they could draw more welfare. Even that didn't help though because the parents and oldest son had both drug and gambling addiction. They could never keep the power on and had to send the kids out to the neighbors to bathe because the well pump wouldnt work without it. Several churches tried giving them help but they would only accept cash. They had no interest in food or jobs. Every time they got some money they headed to the convenience store to plunk every last dime of it into the video poker machine. Let's just say they will never be in any of the professional poker tournaments and leave it at that. They did teach their kids the fine art of "finding things" if you know what I mean. They got busted for that but since it was the kids that did it they just got a slap on the wrist and turned loose. The older daughter became a prostitute at 16 and started propositioning all the men in the neighborhood. The last few days they were here I noticed I never saw the younger kids. I suppose DSS finally got them.
It's really awful to watch a family nosedive like that but they are living proof that you can't help people that refuse to help themselves.

Excellent idea! I agree with you 100%, earthdog. But, I would also suggest drug testing anyone who has a permit to work in this country. (I'm not even going to get into the issue of people *without* permits) If you want to work in this country with permission, let's make sure you don't have any contact with illegal drugs.
