ok i ditched all my feeders since the squirrels just practice gymnastics with these until they destroy them. i think i already told y'all that one of my squirrels really likes to keep up with me and see what i'm doing. this is him & notice how much darker he is than the regular fox squirrel. any ideas on what kind he is? regular fox squirrel chipmunk who has tunnels all over the yard that go into my flower bed and come out in the pasture. a hawk must have flown over and everyone was alerted to run for cover and they did. it is raining like crazy here now and the squirrel is out there holding his tail over his head to keep from getting wet while he eats. looks like he has a red wig! kim

No idea on the dark squirrel. Maybe he's just a black fox squirrel, every now and again we get a black or white on up here that are just mutants. Did you get a pic of the squirrel in the rain?

I had squirrels across town at my last place, but where I live now seems bereft of squirrels. Must be the lack of trees. I wonder if a feeder in the backyard would make any difference.

Funny, this is the one place I've lived where we have no squirrels in town at all. The surrounding towns have squirrels, but not here. And I have this great big pecan tree (and fruit trees - tasty fruit trees!), with no one but my dog to help me clean up the mess.

something is eating your squirrels rhonda! daniel you have to have some trees or they have nowhere to nest.

No Kim, actually I had to work for it. Three different translators, and finally G$$gle before I found the one I liked. Ha

Yep, I'm with Cher, looks like a partially melanistic ( dark phase Fox Squirrel) Only other one you might have of that size is the Eastern Gray Squirrel and they don't have the red hairs in the tail (either gray lined with white or all black if melanistic)....mel

Scottish squirrels? Well thats different then lad. They can roam the land as long as they are in my nieghbors pecan trees rather than mine.

Looks like a fox squirrel with a couple wierd genes. We have an area in Waterloo Ia. that has fox squirrels with markings like a Pinto Pony. Some have white legs and body with a normal colored saddle around the middle and others have white heads or tails and sometimes both. Spotting something like that early Sunday morning makes you wonder what the bartender was serving Saturday night !!!!!
