touched my heart. I haven't been feeling good the past couple of days so have spent a lot of time laying down listening to the scanner. We have a lot of fires going on so I had the air band on listening to the water bombers and helicopters.
Anyway, I can hear a couple control towers talking to pilots. One of them [control tower] just contacted a plane and told the pilot ...
"You have a soldier on your flight, his name is .... and he is returning home from Iraq. We would like you to welcome him home."
I realize it was probably a family member who contacted the airport but it made me feel good that among all the intense work related to being an air traffic controller, they took a minute to do this. I thought it was just really cool and wanted to share.

Cher:
There are a lot of us that care, this site is proof of that statement. Hope you are feeling better and if you are a Mom, let me be one of the first to say HAPPY MOTHERS DAY.

Cher, glad you brought this up. I have a nephew somewhere over there. Also had a niece who did a tour, and will probably be going back. We have several local folks serving, as well. Two of them walked off their plane into the Denver airport w/their gear, looking grungy and world weary after long hours of traveling. Someone asked one of them if they were just getting back from Iraq, they said no, Afghanistan. That person began to clap, and before you know it, everyone in the airport was clapping and cheering for them as they walked thru. A few guys grabbed their bags and carried them all the way to the curbside pickup, where their ride was waiting. Made them both ball like babies, which caused some concern with the gal who was waiting to pick them up! She was afraid they were being mobbed in a bad way. They were too emotional to explain right then, so she told them to get in, had the 'carriers' throw the bags in the trunk, and screeched out of there. They stopped at a truck stop on the way home for some food and gas, and were not allowed to pay. I guess a lot of truck drivers are veterans of some sort. When our newspaper interviewed them later, they said they couldn't have asked for a better 'thank you'.
