Heh, heh, it's not what you're thinking. My Ohio Buckeye tree is leafing out now, and I'm always amazed at how much it looks like pot when the leaf buds have just opened up. Okay, maybe I'm too easily amused. ;D -Don

Wow, got my attention! It's amazing how much different the Ohio buckeye looks from the California buckeye. If I remember, I'll take a pic of the leaf structure on my tree and post it here. Out here, they start budding out around Feb, flower until the end of May, and start turning yellow around July. I started mine from seed about 28 years ago, and "Big Buck" is a grandpa. From his seed, I grew "Son of a Buck" and from his seed I grew "Littler Bucker"!

Nuthin can touch BC buds tho Someone just sent this to me and I had a real good laugh so I guess I'll share it here. Here is a Fox news cast with a recording of a 911 call placed by a police officer from his home. Apparently he confiscated some pot from someone and decided to go home and make some brownies with it instead. I guess he didn't how much to use or what to expect and he started to panic after a while, thinking there was "something in it" because "time was moving really really slow". Just too funny, but in a way kind of sad too. ;D Here just watch it... www.liveleak.com/player.swf?autostart=true&token=1f4_1179038976

WM, I think they would probably grow well in Wyoming. They do fine here in central Alberta, and don't seem to show any winter damage, even in years when we dip to -35.
LCARS, That was a hoot! I guess he was pretty generous with the secret herbal ingredient! -Don

Ooooooo me too, me too!! Can I get some seeds from one of you? Hmmm wonder if they will grow in Minnesota ... oh yeah, info says they are good to zone 3b. No idea what the "b" means but I'm in zone 3 so that should be cool.
Is it true that ... "By late summer to early fall the trees look unsightly and are often partially defoliated. Litter from husks and nuts can be a problem."

In the photo, they almost look plastic! My dad had a tree thing growing in his yard in So. Calif. and it always reminded me of the same thing....but of course, my dad was a cop, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't anything close to the real thing. And I couldn't say anything cuz it would have made him suspicious!

So that's what Ohio State's mascot is. Until now, I've never known what a buckeye was.
