Most people don't know just what hard work some biologists have to do to accomplish their jobs. Most people think of them as lab nerds but that's not the case at all.
In his study for the state,my cousin had to use 3 Boston Whalers tied to small islands and each other in the Niagara River just above the falls to collect the proper samples he needed for his study of the aquatic life there!
Niagara Falls, which comes from Lake Erie is the main feed for Lake Ontario and it was VERY important for him to get as good and as many samples as he needed so he and his people would only have to do this once!
To make it as difficult as possible for him to do this the wonderful state of NY gave him 6 college kids, who were studying biology ,to do a task the Evil Knievel wouldn't try!
This was only one very small part of the work he did.He also had to live right out on the Lake during the winter month to do tests and Lake Ontario is NOT a calm frog pond winter or summer for that matter! Many, many huge ships sit on Her bottom from the violent storm that have and still occur there. Not to mention the freezing temps he and his people had to endure and being away from his wife and kids for months and months at a time!
All this for absolutely NOTHING!!!
He's a very easy going guy and it takes a LOT to rattle his cage but when the funding stopped he went over the edge and almost got fired for it!
There's a lot that goes on "behind the scenes" that we never hear about and a lot of good people who give it their all only to get the rug yanked out from under them!
My cousin Ed is one of them and it's a real shame because he's one of the best!
