I hope this is OK for this forum... What I am sharing with you comes with great gladness but also at the expense of great sadness for a family of a young person's loss...without which my daughter-in-law would not be alive today... Please read her story of a life saving event on April 24, 2007...the operation she received is very new and unbelievable...I am still at awe over what the medical profession can accomplish today...the reason was her whole organ system was like shattered glass (crystallized) because of many years being on kidney dialysis. In layman's terms they replaced all the organs in tact with two cuts...top of stomach and colon, then tied in all nerve and blood supply, over 12 hr operation... I am not asking for no donations from family or friends, but more over prayers for the donor family's loss and for the continued road to health that Regina has not had for as long as she remembered...and for my son Alan who has stood by her side... here is her website... www.helpregina.org/ Please, if at all possible encourage everyone you know to become a registered donor for yourself and family members in the event tragedy strikes...this could be an opportunity to help many others... My prayers go out to you all,

Just an update on Regina:
My son Alan called this AM (Mon. 21st) after a couple small infections were taken care of , she will be leaving the hospital today...she only weighs 100 soak-en wet anyway...but she said she feel better today than, well, she can't remember when...
just a reminder, please if at all possible register as a donor... Our family prayers will always go out to the donor family who ever they are...for their sorrow and ask the Lord's blessing for giving such a wonderful life saving gift...
thanks

I want to update this wonderful family about my daughter-in-law and my son...Regina had a long and hard struggle throughout this whole process...she was able to spend time at home in Indiana and was able to be with her family...also make a few trips to wendy's her favorite fast food place.
Always had an upbeat attitude knowing the odds of success as we know it were almost nil in her favor. Regina Williams Passed away Oct., 19, 2007 at 2:00pm She was on life support a couple days so all family and friends could be with her.
When my son gave the physician and nurse permission to remove the life support. She passed away in a couple minutes...but what was remarkable was over 5 attending physicians and over 30 nurses were there to give her their last respects...as a close nurse to the family said "she has never seen that done before..."
Days later the origional surgeon told my son. " she has given us years of research information to go over while pioneering this type of transplant...and he is writing a book on this subject and devoting a chapter to her case because it was so rare...
My son is doing better than I would...I am proud of the both of them...a very strong bond they had...
Thank you for this space and time...never give up hope and helping other to hope also...

To lose someone as brave and as special as Regina is such a sadness for all of your family but she will always be a beacon of light for those who knew her and all the patients that are going to be helped because she was willing to take the first steps.
My prayers and good thoughts are with you, Alan, and all the people whose lives have been touched by Regina...she was certainly a very special young woman.

I'm very sorry for your loss Gene. My thoughts go out to you, your son and your family. Regina will live on, not only in your hearts and minds, but also with everyone who is helped in the future because of her.
