Iris have always been my favorite flowers in the garden. At one time my Mom had around 30 different strains between dwarf, regular and bearded, but has lost most of them with the last two moves. Some of them have been passed on from up to 4 generations back and are one of a kinds that were originated in Germany from ancestors in the late 1800's. She has given me many to plant in hopes that she can start a new bed next year. Here are a few of the ones that are in bloom at our house now - I think she will be proud when she sees them. Hope they brighten your day too!! A simple white... A bearded purple dwarf.... Purple Lace... Scarlet Dragon Throat... Thanks for looking

Very interesting colors, we have here only either purple, or white ones. I like the combination of the third one and the red color of the last one. They could be named the third one - amethyst iris and the last one - carnellian iris Adrian

They come in dozens of color combinations over here, Adrian. See if you can order from an American company...

Those are gorgeous! My grandma always had lots of irises growing all over her yard. Nice pics too, I'm sure your mom will love them.

Dave
Very nice! There is a purple dwarf that grows wild in AR. We brought some back and managed to keep them alive at our old house, but have not had any since we moved here 11 years ago. We're planning an AR trip the last of June and you have inspired me to bring some more back.

I am lucky on my drive to and from work each day, I get to drive by arces of Iris's along side the freeway. I always love this time of year when they are all in bloom.

Thanks for the compliments everyone! I wish I had more of the ones Mom used to have - they made these look plain. She has a 'greener thumb' than I do as these have taken about 3 years to bloom well. I just wish they would last longer instead of just in Spring. Adrian - Like Toad mentioned there are many companies in America that offer lots of different varieties you could order by mail. Here is a place that has some if you are interested - Michigan Bulb Co. Iris are the second item down on the page - looks like a good mixed lot of fancy colors, and you can order them on-line also. michiganbulb.com/category.asp_Q_c_E_10_A_Bulbs_E_
