Hi everyone,
It's been awhile since I've been here. For the past few months I've been having trouble with my eyesight. I found out I had cataracts and needed new lens. I had my first surgery on Monday and it went well. It is so great to see again! It got to the point where I couldn't even read my laptop. I will have my next surgery on 6/4. It is still a little sore with the stitches, but I can't believe the difference in my site. I went in for my first after surgery check up and I am 1 line from having 20/20 vision in my right eye. Needless to say I never dreamed I would have to have this surgery being that I am only 49. I was also the youngest patient in the surgery room on Monday! LOL! It's great to be back and be able to read the boards and view all those gorgeous rock pictures. Okay, I need a little ocean jasper pick me up about now! LOL!

Glad to hear good news, Deb! Now you're able to really admire your collection of rocks, don't you?
I have a colleague that had the same surgery a couple of months ago. Stay away of dust and wind for a while.

Glad to hear your seeing again (well that just sounds strange huh?) But you should change the post title to "Seeing Again"

Yes it's great to see again! I think your eye sight is something most of us take for granted. Now I can see all those rocks a lot clearer. Even looking outside I can see the leaves on trees and flower petals. I've got some stylin' Paris Hilton sunglasses to wear which really help when I go outside. Come to think about it, she could afford to give me some of her sunglasses as she won't be needing them soon for awhile! LOL! Than I wouldn't have to wear these crazy ones. LOL! I've got 2 weeks to recover with my right eye than will have surgery on my left eye on 6/4. This surgery will be easier now that I know what it is like. I am just not a good patient. Can't wait to tear on out of the hospital operating room! LOL! Thanks so much for the nice comments friends!

Now that I can see I can try to do those wire wraps like all those I admire! You guys are so talented! I hope to be able to do it now that I can see the tiny wire. Where before there was no way I could have done it. It's great to have your eye sight back and it's amazing what they can do anymore for your eyes.

I feel like a camera with a new lens! LOL! Really though that is true as I have a crystal lens implant complete with a serial number! LOL! I am hoping to take better pictures since I can see now. Where before it was like trying to see through thick fog. Very scary driving on the freeway around here. It's great to be back. Now I can really ZOOM in on all those gorgeous rock pictures!

Wow Debs, that's amazing the way they can do surgery on a person's eyes, wonderful for you that it worked so well and hope the next is just as good. I'm glad you're able to read the forum again, that must have been so scary.
Hey, I'll be visiting down near Waterloo next weekend, hoping to make another trip to the Waterloo IHOP. *smile* Like I really need to visit that place but I did find a nice laker there when I was there last year. ;D (We don't have an IHOP up here so I have to visit one when I'm there, I mean I have no choice right?)

Yes it was getting kind of scary. I thought I was going blind to say the least. After countless doctor's office visits and hospital tests they said I had cataracts in both eyes and they had to be removed. Normally, this isn't something that happen's to someone who is 49, maybe if I would have been 79! LOL! The difference in my sight is amazing. Even reading this board is very sharp and clear! These Crystalens are kind of cool. They can zoom in for close up and zoom out for distance and in between. They have hinges and work with your natural eye muscles. It kind of feel's like you have any eye lash in your eye. I think it's just the stiches healing in your lens. What's strange is having your pupil dialated. People kind of give me a strange look like I'm high on something! LOL! I ought to look real cute with both dialated and my Paris Hilton sunglasses! NOT! I know a lot of people love the food at IHOP. You know I have never been there, but I know my mom loves it there. I would love to try the special french toast. It look's so yummy! Have a fun and safe Memorial Weekend here!

If you take your lens off your camera and look through it, that was what my eye sight was like. Once you remove the cataract and the lens, you loose 1/3 of your eye sight. If everything turns out well, I may not ever need glasses anymore! Whoo Hoo!!!

The bad part is insurance only covers the cataract surgery. They don't cover the surgery and lens implant which is $1,500.00 dollars per eye. Needless to say I will not be able to buy any rocks for a long time after this expense...but I sure can ZOOM IN on all the gorgeous pictures on the board!

Debs Im glad your surgery worked out - my aunt had the same and she said she never "looked back" - kind of an appropriate thing to say.
Of course I cant comment much more as you are the one with the experience - it must be fantastic.
Great news for you Debs. I DO like to hear stories where people pull through stuff. Thanks for sharing. Mark.

How great to have your sight back! The marvels of modern medicine.... Welcome back to the land of the sighted. I figure that I'll have to do it some day myself, but at 49 hope to hold that off a bit. Congrats to you!

That's is what I thought Maryann! I am only 49 year's old! LOL! After countless doctor's visits and hospital trips this was the end result to my eye sight problem. I kept asking them if they were sure as I am only 49. They told me they are getting more and more patients in their 30s and 40s now. It is not so uncomman. I was thinking this would be something I might deal with in my 60s or 70s.

I thought I would share this with you in case another member has the same problem. I think we all take our eye sight for granted until one day we are almost legally blind. If I didn't have the Crystalens implant, I would have lost 1/3 of my eye sight in my right eye. This makes a world of difference. If you take the lens off your camera, that was what my eye sight was like until the surgery. What a difference it makes. I agree with your aunt. I never look back, as I am always looking forward. Zooming in on all the things I use to struggle to see. Like the weeds in my flower gardens and the petals on the flowers. I can see the colors in rocks and the patterns so much clearer now. Even the colors in my Mugglestone. They are even more gorgeous now that I can really see them all!
Thanks for listening everyone! It's great to be back and able to read the boards and view the beautiful rocks! Okay, where are my ocean jasper friends? Has anyone been to the Gem Shop lately? Is it true the mine is closed and they won't be getting any more ocean jasper? I've been hearing a lot of things about it lately.
