our 2nd biggest customer announced the other day that the doors are closing...deerfield specialty paper company. just a couple of months ago...augusta tissue mill...filed bankruptcy...stuck us with a big loss...at least they are said to be reopening after court hearings this being a fairly small industrial and concentrated area of plants and mills...its not like you can run out and find another big customer....not to mention the specialty machines we have built to cater to there paticular jobs. i have a mess on my hands...what about the guys in the shop that may have to be laid off...i have great folks surrounding me..all of them. its hard enough to turn a profit now....now lost about 20 grand in sales a month....i know im not the only 1 this has happened to...but it still sucks when it hits home....just a rant...kev.

We also have areas totally depending on a mammoth mill, and if it shuts down it's really harsh for locals. Sorry to hear about that.

Sorry to hear that. Every business that closes is a loss to us all.

yea it sucks- My dad does a lot of work for Chevy- he is a couple years from retire- and he is scared- Chevy has cancelled their last 3 machine orders- (to the tune of a couple million dollars) and now he finds out that he may have to travel to china- not good.

Yeah the paper business is really in trouble these days. You know its bad when paper is being given away as a premium for buying a printer, etc. Its said cpdad...I hope you come through it okay.

ya its a sad time for the paper mills....its even sader that we have a wonderful working relationship with the other shops in the area.
there are somethings that they cant do...and we do it for them....and things that we cant do...that they do for us...we know their customers and they know ours.....i know its a dog eat dog world out there....do we try to move in on there territory?....do we not?....its all a major pain at the moment...kev

Kev, hopefully it's not permanent. We have a papermill up here, one area's major employer that laid off about 400 workers and closed two lines a few years ago. Now I just heard they are expanding and things are turning around again. We have to believe it will get better again.
