Hey LW
I wouldn't mind seeing the Republic Of Texas make a comeback. :-) As John says, we need real people in the government. The people that are there now don't have the faintest idea of what the average person wants America to be.

I think Texas should simply usurp the rest of the nation and get things all straightened out. Probably need to go ahead and take over Canada....call it North Texas and Mexico should go ahead and become South Texas. We could probably do ok if we let the Mexicans move to California and just call it New Mexico.

Seems to me Texas should be gettin' shrunk on the map. After all, that's who foisted Dubya off on the rest of us.

Everyone's got a good reason to secede from the USA. I spend time with friends in Vermont who are ultra Conservative but it's got the only independent representation in the country...sounds like a progressive idea to me...we may need more states like Vermont, who are not bound by "my party, rightly or wrongly", no blind affiliation or loyalty
Too much freedom, not enough freedom, too many rainbows, not enough diversity, too many aliens, too many taxes, not enough protection, too many restrictive laws, can't say what I want , cant do what I want, everyones doing their own thing, too many prayers, cant pray at school, too many Liberal activist judges making laws, Im a christian with values and you'd better do what I say, too many Conservative activist judges making laws, this court is too restictive in its rulings, this one is too liberal, the second amendment allows me to carry a gun, the second amendment allows me to have a state militia, Women shouldn't be allowed to vote, slaves are properties not people, oops I changed my mind, women are equal, so are slaves, I'm compounding your crime and I'll charge you with a hate crime too(since when is HATE a crime? or aren't all crimes involved with some kind of hate.
Unfortunately every teenager also has a reason to hate their parents, or their schoolteachers or the Police ...
Herm...I grew up in Jersey and hated to have to pay NY Stae and City income taxes and I hated it too, but, look on the bright side, at least you have a job...Maybe if you incorporated, like Tyco and other despicable companies, offshore, you could avoid paying taxes in the US entirely...that'd be good for the country(so how do they get away with it?).

At the end of the Revolutionary War, Vermont was actually a separate country. While the colonies were rebelling against Great Britain, Vermont was quietly taking advantage of the opportunity to secede from everyone. It was a political embarrassment that was never publicized much, and many people were unhappy about when Vermont did join the U.S. Many thought that fraud, deceit, and subterfuge were responsible for the vote to join. But hey, that's what America's all about! You can still see remnants of that sentiment in the way that the great wilderness area in Vermont is called, "The Northeast Kingdom of Vermont".
