My gosh, what is on her back? It looks like moss or algae.......how did it get there? That's cool, though, that you'll have babies crawling around soon! Now, hopefully, you don't have dogs like we have that won't let them be.................

Very cool indeed KD! I see turtles laying eggs around here all the time, but I've never seen a camo turtle before!

THAT is cool! I've never seen a mossy turtle before - other than the one in my flowers that hasn't moved since I put it there. Guess that doesn't really count though.

That's wild! I've never seen a turtle with moss on it's shell like that. And you caught her laying eggs! That has to be a rare sight I would think. Cool pics Kim.

How cool is that. Have you considered giving that photo to the local natural history museum? I bet they'd be interested.

How cool- Last weekend My daughter snagged a Snapping turtle while we were fishing (thankfully the hook came off the shell before he got too close)

That is majorly cool! My dad had one (much less mossy) that laid eggs on the side of the road (we were almost touching it and she just kept digging) then the workers buried them in crushed stone & flattened the whole street
Can you tumble turtle eggs?

I bet they'd be interested. herm do we have one of those in mississippi lol? here is why she is mossy. my whole bayou is covered in moss right now. and here is after the egg laying. if i hadn't seen her doing it, i'd never know it happened. now how many days before they hatch? kim

That's really interesting. I never knew turtles were such masters of camouflage. I checked a couple websites for the incubation time for turtle eggs. Some claimed 45-75 days, others 60-90 days. Better mark that spot and leave it be until the end of August!
I'm guessing that you will probably see when they've left the nest, as there's no need for them to camouflage that part of things, but that's just a guess.
