There is nobody else around so you approach them for directions and find they are identical twins, completely indestinguishable from each other. You politely greet them, tell them where you are going and ask if they know which way to go.
The twins pause for a moment, look and nod at each other, then begin to speak in unison." As you may have noticed we are twins, but we are not identical in EVERY way... You may ask either one of us any one question you like but one of us will always lie and the other will always tell the truth." I can lie better than you, you Son of a Gun!, and be on your merry way. Condor

The traveller should then take the other road. (If the lying twin is asked, he knows that his truthful twin would tell the traveller the correct path, so he lies and tells him the wrong path. If the truthful twin is asked, he knows that his lying twin would tell the traveller the wrong road, so his truthful response to the question is to tell the traveller the wrong road. In both cases, the traveller is told to take the wrong road, so he should choose the other road. I wish I could take credit for coming up with this explanation myself, but I confess I heard it elsewhere. -Don

Condor Just wanted to let you know, my son did this experiment because he wanted to know the answer. He's asleep right now, but when he wakes up, I'll ask him how many it took. LOL

How can I be more zen? It seems everyone is always ranting about something or other and...well...I'm guilty of that too. I know there's that whole seven steps thing, but since I'm not sure about this whole god thing, that isn't working for me.

Tell her she can be more zen by getting inspired by the images in my contest and writing a lovely poem about how in touch she has become with the moment. Lady B
