I HAD to call in sick today. Told my friend that I HAD to see this movie before I heard about it from everyone else. So we stood in line outside the movie theater at 11 ish (didn't remember that they open later) and they had a local news camera crew asking people what they thought the movie would be like.
Well they didn't ask us (we made it obvious we were skirting the camera) how would it look if I was at the movies when I was sick - but I did run into someone from work there but he works in another department so it was okay.
The movie is fantastic - if you haven,t read any of the books it's very good, but there were a lot of missing/changed parts from the books (which is normal so the movie doesn,t last 5 hours)
I loved it and am already anticipating the next movie - which is my second favorite year (after year 4) - but that only starts filming in September so it probably won't be out until 2008-2009
I'll probably go see the movie with my daughter in French this weekend - since it's the language she prefers but I had to see it first in English because it would be wrong not to do so.
I'm already on hyperactive wait for the final book which comes out next Saturday (I won't be in line at midnight July 21 but I will be in early at Walmart to pick it up - I'll be spending my days & evenings reading until I get through it - as I can,t stand the thought of someone telling me how it ends)
There was a special on A&E where they had experts analysing the HP books - very interesting!
Incidentally - I heard that this may not the the last book JK Rowling writes about Harry Potter - it may not be the end after all - If it's the end I can,t see it ending any other way than
********************SPOILER ALERT******************
both of them dying - how can she stop writing about him if she doesn,t kill him off - or kill off Voldemort? Will she say he killed Voldemort, got a job at the Ministry of Magic & lived happily ever after? She can't, so unless she's hiding another book there is no way for him to live - but what do I know? I still think Snape's a nice guy somewhere beneath that Deatheater exterior - he may be a vampire but he's gotta be a nice guy somehow - we'll know next Saturday (how early will I be up & ready to go July 21st?

Tweetiepy, Haven't seen the movie yet but I am on pins and needles waiting for that last (please don't let it really be the last) book. There is actually a web site where you can electronically sign a petition which will be forwarded to Rowling's publisher asking that she not end this incredible series of books with this 7th. Here's the link if you and/or your daughter want to sign: www.waterstones.com/waterstonesweb/navigate.do?pPageID=1384I don't know what to expect in this 7th book but I am still not convinced that Snape killed Dumbledore in Book 6. I think he was protected and that he and Snape had worked this out so he could go into hiding and work from behind the scenes. Remember how it was so important that he be buried there at Hogwart's? I am well past being a kid but I just love the incre4dible story lines and the vivid imagery that make up the HP books. When I was still teaching graphic design I had my students design their own interpretations of some of the imagery from the earliest books. It was a fantastic experience. Saturday is so close now...Happy Reading!!! Lady B

Tweet- I'll be at camp the 21st- I begged my mom to come up after stopping at walmart!!! I figured I could spend all Sat and Sun and get through it!! As for "other" books in the series- well the rumors are flying around- but JK say on her sight she may write "suppliments" to the series (remember her quidditch book and the other text books she wrote for charity?) but her immediate plans were to end the series- I think the proof of a continuation will be pretty clear at the end of 7- if Harry lives- well the potential is there for more- If he dies- well that pretty much ends it huh?
SPOILER WRNING! I'm voting that he dies in the end- to save his friends- and his true love (Ginny)- Dumbldore- NOT Dead (remember Pheonix's have amazing powers-) Snape- Good in the end- Sirius- really gone- Neville- I think he's the one to finish off Voldemort- it seems that Voldemorte falls prey to the simplests and purest forms of magic- 10 days and we'll know for sure!

SPOILER ALERT
I think that when JK said killing one of two characters made her cry in this "final" book it was because she killed dear, sweet Neville. He has always been bumbling but so lovable and knowing his history and his own very personal ties to Voldemort I can just see him confronting Evil in order to save those he cares about and just not being quick enough or adept enough to survive the encounter. And Neville's death will be the event that brings on the final destruction of Voldemort. At least that's how my imagination would take the story.

Bummer, I just read some very interesting stuff on mugglenet.com - "Dumbledore IS really dead. "Everyone needs to move through the five stages of grief" and get past his death." - this from JK Rowling herself -

OK, I have to admit that I am a Harry Potter fan. I think the books have been getting darker and more ominous. Not sure if I would take my younger nephews to the latest movie, which I have not seen yet. (Small town, we get the movies about a week before they come out on video, lol).
However, what a hoot! All the hoopla, speculation, etc. It's reminding me of my college days, when everyone on the dorm floor had to watch and discuss a certain soap opera! I remember talking to Tom, my BF at the time, now my husband, and laughing about it. Oops! Guess what? He was also a 'lunchhour soap' fan, and knew all about it.
And now Harry has certainly eclipsed all those soaps! They have special HP commentators on the news, speculating and forecasting. I repeat, what a hoot! And, thanks for not spoiling it!

I saw the movie last night. I have not read the books.
It was enjoyable. Definately each film has gotten darker. I think it is OK for kids who were young for the 1st oneand have aged with the films. I agree this is nto the film to take a 6yr old to - too many nightmares, attacks, sadistic punishments, scary fights, and much death.
But young kids can see the older DVD and when they are ready then can see this one on DVD too.

I pretty much read anything - cereal boxes, pill containers (yeah I need help!)
I used to read Danielle Steele a long while ago now, I can't even open any of her books (too sickly sweet for my taste - I can't read any romance books anymore - too much bull for my taste) I do like the Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Crighton, Patterson - mystery types of books and found that the HP books are fabulous, nothing is mentioned in there for nothing - everything has a reason and very rarely does she mention something and it has no use further use in the book - it is excellent writing and even better reading - I've read the books (the whole series at least 4 times in English and twice in French - I usually re-read them before the next book or movie comes out.
I plan on reading straight through July 21 (I may not be online here the next few days after July 21)

Hey Tweetiepy,
The young actress who plays Hermione was asked by People which of the good guys she would kill if it were up to her for the final book. She chose Neville, fighting back to avenge his poor parents.
I also read all the books over again as each new title comes out so that means I've read the first six times, the second five times, etc., etc. ...gosh, I've really read a lot about Harry.
Based on what else you posted as authors you enjoy, have you read anything by Alex Kava? Her main character is an FBI profiler. I am now reading the fourth book in her series (accidently read #5 first when I found it at the library; then arranged to borrow the first four so I could get caught up.)
Happy reading over the next week!

Jeremy and I went to see the movie this morning!! Very dark!! Sooooooo much had to be removed for the story to get it's point. You really must read the books to get the truth of the story and understand everything. Jeremy hasn't read the books, and the one time he did, he ended up being disappointed in the movie, so he won't read any more of the books. I told him he really should anyway and just appreciate what they were able to fit in the movies.
We did take our children to see it with us, 5 and 7. But they have been watching the previous Harry Potters for months now in anticipation of this one. I think they understand that bad things happen to people in these movies, but they are too wrapped up in spells and magic to get it. They loved the movie, though they seemed a little more somber after this one. I was worried about the 5 year old when I saw how scary it was getting but he took it well and always smiled at me... he actually seemed quite bored at times and kept trying to ask me questions about the theater and how the big screen worked... during the movie... haha. I don't think it was too much for my kids to handle, but I think others that are more sensative might have problems.
anyway. I can't wait for the book to come. I love reading the books more than watching the movies. I wait a couple years and then reread one and am amazed at how much I had forgotten. It's like reading it anew for the first time, except I understand more.
On pins and needles for saturday... mine is coming in the mail, and it better get here Saturday or I'll have to wait til Monday and then I'll just cry.

Okay - I watched the movie last week, and I have to say I was disappointed. The others carried enough of the main storyline from the book that it was (somewhat) okay if you didn't read the book. However, this one cuts what I think of as essentials from the storyline. It's a little too sparse of a telling, if you ask me. As for the book, I'll be there at midnight on Friday to pick mine up. Unfortunately through poor planning on my part I have meetings all day Saturday - starting with an 8 AM drive and ending back at my house late that night. So, my reading won't start until Sunday afternoon. *sigh* I really, really think Harry lives. Really. But, I'm a hopeless twit about these things.

I just got a spoiler from a co-worker (he'll be finding thumbtacks on his chair throughout the month! and his phone earpiece laced with blue ink!)
Turns out someone leaked info about who dies at the end - I'm taking it as a lie until i actually read it - but the pictures are of the actual pages taken with a cell phone camera - I read that someone posted pictures that were uploaded to Photobucket and they were taken out - this was yesterday - but the story leaked today so I'm thinking it's a hoax or someone is trying- but we'll soon find out - only 2.5 days left -
I'll be in line early Saturday morning to buy the book (I may have to buy two books, as hubby says he can't wait till I'm finished reading it) but the worse thing is that I have a friend that has to wait for the book to come out in French (in October/November) and I can't talk to her about it until then.... that's gonna be tough!

Yeah Tweety - I've encountered three different "real" versions of who dies in the end. All three of them were said to come from the actual book, and none of them matched. The first one, I discounted as completely unfeasible. The second one has possibilities, and I shied away from actually thinking about the third one.
With the book - I'm hoping it's a fake, as it had the incorrect amount of pages posted. The book is actually about twenty pages less than what was posted...or so the publisher says.

I heard that as folks were in line at midnight waiting for the book to go on sale, someone yelled "Snape kills Dumbledore!"
That's just plain mean! - I'm not listening to what anyone says, I've speculated on my own - Kreacher, I think, plays an important role in book 7 with regard to RAB - he was just ever-so-present in the 5th movie and could have been omitted altogether for the amount of time and the role he played, but I heard that when being consulted on the book - a character was to be omitted from the 5th movie but JKR had said they should leave that character there otherwise they'd have to find a creative way to re-introduce them in the final book
PS: my cubicle neighbor, who has no interest in the books at all, keeps reading posts somewhere trying to find out the end and he keeps telling me what he's finding - I'm letting it all slide as a joke but I'm NOT thinking this is remotely funny - anyone have a way to shut him up for good - short of strangling him with his phone cord (I'd be the most likely suspect)
I told him to quit it but he's not getting it - any suggestions!!! ALL are welcome

I have not read the books or heard the spoilers. But, just trying to imagine what an author does with a character at the end of a series ... well I can only see Harry die if the series were a classic tragedy, and this is not.
I can imagine ...
.... the two get locked into mortal-combat in an alternate magical dimension (Didn't a Startrek episode end this way?)
... the two merge and somehow become one new person, kind of like split personalities re-integrating, aka Jeckel-Hyde, or Ryker's evil transporter twin on StarTrek
... dark lord killed but Harry burns out his powers during final battle and retires to a quiet ordinary life
... dark lord kills himself while trying to kill harry (so there is less blood on harry's hands)
I guess there will be people at work Monday telling what really happens.

OK. I got caught in the speculation. I downloaded the last two chapters and read them.
... but I won't tell
