OK...I know life is not always fair but enough is enough.
I have been in and out of the ER and hospital several times now for my chest pains. The doctors still do not know what is actualy causing them but they do say there is nothing wrong with my heart. Hmmmm... I have gone through all the tests and am now on a lot of pills but nothing is changing. Now on top of this, my wife had to go the the ER a little over a week ago with acute pancreatitis and was in the hospital for a week. Today, I had to take her back to the ER....only this time it was twice as bad as the first trip. She is now in a room and we just talked with the surgeon and he wants to try to wait until Friday to remove her gall bladder. The doctor said she may be in there as long as two weeks after the surgery depending on how things go. The enzymes they use to test the gall bladder are usually in the 300 range,,,,her test came back at well over 45,000. Anyways, I just got back home from the hospital long enough to feed my cats, get some things for the wife and am about to head out the door to go back to the hospital. My nerves are about shot. This crap is no fun. I will update as soon as I have something to report.
Even worse,....my doctor will not let me do any rock hunting. I can not bend over for more than 5 seconds with out getting dizzy or even passing out. Getting old is hell...

Damn, that all sucks. I hope you both get better real soon. On the lighter side, did the doc. tell you to stop having rough sex? That will always bring chest pains. Stop beating you're chest like Tarzan in the bedroom...

Pho,
You and your wife are in my thoughts and prayers. Hope her surgery goes off without a hitch. And this is just a silly question, but have the docs checked your magnesium level? They thought I was having a coronary, put me on monitors, gave me nitro (which nearly did give me a coronary), ran a bunch of mean tests and ended up with lots of questions and no real answers/explanations. I switched to a new primary care MD and the first thing he did was check my electrolytes and lo and behold! For some reason I keep losing my magnesium--especially if I dehydrate--so now I keep Slo Mag handy and the heart is ticking just fine again.
Hope they solve your medical dilemma real soon.

I'm so sorry to hear about both of your health issues. Hope everything goes well for your wifes' surgery.
Let me tell you something about my husbands health problem. This took 3 years of Hell to diagnose. He was taken to ER several times with the thought it was a heart attack. Other times for other stuff, panic attacks(heart beating real fast like its gonna pop out of your chest), dizziness, passing out, losing all color in the face. There is more but cant remember all of it right now. It was mega scary. Test after test got really tiring with no results. It was just dumb luck he was sent to an ear nose and throat guy with a passion for odd ear diseases. The Diagnosis...Menniere's Disease. An imbalance of fluid in one of the canals. It only takes a minute overage and boom! Anyway he takes one pill a day, it's like a water pill. I think it's usually prescribed for high blood pressure. He's pretty much back to normal. Ask your doc if it could be this.
You are both in my thoughts and prayers.

Really glad you are back, but sorry about the health problems. What hospital? In Houston? If there is ANYTHING we can do, please call, pm, whatever. I am keeping you two in my thoughts.

We talked with the surgeon last night. They have decided her pancreas is too "hot" for them to do emergency surgery so they want to wait until Friday or Saturday. She is getting lots of morphine for the pain and is spaced out a little but otherwise doing ok. Her IV blew out this morning and they has a real problem finding a good vein to start a new one. Took 6 nurses before one finaly got a new IV started. They were hurting her so bad trying to get a new vein I almost had to leave the room. My wife can stand a lot of pain, so when she was crying I knew it was realy bad. Will keep ya posted as I learn more..

Your latest post braught tears to my eyes. I'm so sorry your wife is in such pain. It really sucks when it takes 6 people to get an IV started. And she's on mmorphine and they still caused so much pain. I know you feel that pain right along with her. Your both in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry to hear about both you and your wife's health problems, Pho. It's hard when you know there is something wrong and they can't seem to tell you what it is. With all the technology and "know-how" the medical field has, it seems there are so many things that just don't fit in their nice neat packages. On top of that, to watch your wife in so much pain, has to make everything harder. Personally, I'd rather have the pain myself than have to watch someone I love go through it - though I'd bet that's a pretty common feeling. You'll both be in our thoughts. On a different note, while poking around on ebay I saw this - cgi.ebay.com/TALL-EXTRA-LONG-Gem-ROCKHOUND-TOOL-Treasure-Scoop-NEW_W0QQitemZ230155564766QQihZ013QQcategoryZ4843QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem and thought of you and your doctor's orders. Don't know if it's any good or how much it would help you but thought if it were able to give you a few minutes rock-hounding time when you wouldn't have any otherwise - it might be enough to help you keep your sanity through all this. take care and keep us posted!
