Great pic!! I'm guessing that's around 1949-1950 because of the old Chevy (hard to tell though without seeing the grill) I'll have to see if I can get my dad to dig up a few pics.

That is so cool. I'd love to ride one of those. You're dad must of been doing real good back then to have 3 Harleys and an Indian. I wonder what the price of one new was back then, like $1500 maybe?

Maybe his riding buddies were over visiting, Earthdog........................................anyway, it is a cool picture! Periodically, you'll see a vintage bike around these days, but it's even cooler to see them "new" in old photos like that. Thanks for sharing!

Takila, I guess you didn't read the header, "my dad's hogs"

actually, Takila is right, apparently the third bike in the back was his buddy's. the one in the middle was his "old" bike and the first one was the "new" bike. (clarification from my mom today.)
when my dad was serving in Korea (paratrooper with 50 jumps), he sent all of his pay home to his mother. she saved it all for him. he's always been a "wheeler-dealer" and been both broke and in tall cotton several times over the years. he's quite the character, if i do say so myself.

I wish you would have PM'ed me that response. If Takila sees that, she will be saying, "I told ya so" for a week.

What a heck of a present for your dad. So many times we give our folks "stuff," and they already have most of it. This is something he definately like.

Randy, I'm not sure about the "Chevy" but I think the car on the left is either a 49 or 50 Merc because of the tail lights, bumper and trunk insignia??? connrock

Good eye bud, yep- The one on the left is a 49-50 Merc. The notice the Chevy right away because I had a 47 Chevy. The Chevy sedans all looked about the same from 1942-1950.

Randy, Back in those days it was easy to ID a car because the makers only had a few models to choose from. Today it's a different story altogether with each line of auto's having several models, not to mention all of the foreign cars on our roads today. You don't see todays cars being customized nearly as much as in the past either and I think that's sad.We used to hang aroung the local gas stations just to watch the "guys" customizing cars and "hopping up" engines in hopes that one of them would ask us to hand them a wrench!!! That was a start in getting your foot in the door!!! "Oh I'll get that for you " or" I'll clean that up" were good bets for getting to know the guys and learn from them. Unfortunately today this is not done and if you see a kid at a gas station he's either there to buy it or filling his new Toyota up with gas!! I can remember watching an old beat up piece of crap that was all rusted and had to be pushed into the garage being transformed into a candy apple red "Deuce" with more chrome on and in it then all the auto makers combined use today!! Interior of red rolled and pleated leather and of course red fuzzy dice hanging from the rear view mirror!! I was only about 12 or 13 then and couldn't wait to get to that garage and watch that kid and his old man building that Deuce!! It looked very much like this photo I took off the web,,,,,,,,,, connrock
