The Contest is over so I'm back to getting into mischief in other ways. I found this news report about a potential cure for blindness in humans--especially when the blindness is the result of degeneration of cells. news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070801/hl_nm/blindness_fish_dc"Zebrafish study may point way to blindness cure"The research offers tremendous hope and is very exciting news. But what I find most amazing: Who in the world thought to study these fish for this purpose in the first place!!!! Lady B

This article was somewhat ironic for my husband and I on another level. Yesterday, and also last Wednesday, Bob had to undergo iridotomies, first on the right eye last week; the left eye, yesterday. It seems pressure was increasing behind his eyes and if not corrected, he would have developed glaucoma with resultant blindness. Because of incredible technological breakthroughs, ophthamologists can now use a laser beam to cut holes in the iris which allows the fluid behind the eye to flow out and over the front of the eye. I was in the procedure room with Bob and it was an incredible experience. It took close to an hour to get his pupil restricted to a pinpoint and then less than a minute to shoot in the laser beam. I kept feeling like Dr. McCoy was going to show up any minute--right after Scotty beamed us aboard!
My husband now has "holey" eyes. I hope the research with the zebrafish does work out so that other humans who might have once faced blindness are as lucky as my Bob.
