well just 1 for texas since they don't have a moon ;D. hope y'all remind me about this!
Two Moons on 27th, August 2007*
*27th August; the day the Whole World is waiting for ......
Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.
It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye. This will cultivate on August 27 when Mars comes within 34.65 Million miles of Earth.
Be sure to watch the sky on August 27, at 12:30 a.m. It will look like the earth has 2 moons.
The next time Mars may come this close is in 2287.
Share this with your friends as NO ONE ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again.

Thank You KD- I remember the 03 approach- it was pretty amazing- But sorry to say that MARS will never appear as large as the full moon to the naked eye (but does give a pretty good show through the telescope- not as good as Jupiter or Saturn- but still worth looking at!)

Hey KD its good to see that someone else out there checks this stuff out on snopes. My mother is always sending me false emails. Can't get her to look at snopes though.

Hey John BuiltonRock, it's not "Blue Moon of Kentucky". You've got the wrong State. It's Arkansas, pig capital of the US and the song is "Blue Moon over My Hammie". As for there being "Two Moons on 27th, August 2007"...that is absolutely, positively true. My Martian friends were just telling me all about it last night when they were visiting. [They have such a nice rosy glow about them, don'tcha know! ] Lady B

Yep, I saw the '03 approach through a scope too. Nice, you could even see the ice caps. But alas it didn't appear to be as close or full as the moon. Just like a REALLY bright star to the naked eye.

Hate to tell you all, but this is not correct. That email keeps going around and around. I sat up and watched last time, but it didn't happen. Mars really was the closest it had been for gazillions of years (59,000 or something) in 2003 (I think), but it WAS NOT as big as a moon, nor will it ever appear so. Sorry! But that's a good thing, because if it were so, the gravitational pulls would cause some major problems, such as life on earth ceasing to exist, ;D On the good side, the Perseid meteor shower is coming up Aug. 11-13, and with the moon out of the way, it should make a good showing. Around midnight on Sunday, Aug. 12, and into the early AM of Aug. 13 is supposedly the best time to watch. We used to have a slumber party, and sleep outside on tarps during the August meteor shower. Great memories with young 3rd grade boys, who thought it was pretty darn cool (then).

What do you Texas doesn't have a moon? I look at it almost every night. Some nights it's pretty spectacular. I don't think I'm halucinating.

Kim When I lived in Daytona I saw twin moons on several of the Holiday Inn Surfsides motel balconies during Spring break.
