Here's the opening line in a very interesting article related to the MN bridge collapse: The head of the National Transportation Safety Board said Friday people shouldn't fret about general bridge safety across the country, notwithstanding figures showing more than 70,000 are rated structurally deficient. " shouldn't fret" " notwithstanding figures showing more than 70,000 are rated structurally deficient"!!!! ? I don't think there should be even one structurally deficient bridge over water or over a roadway in the USA, not when we are spending gazillions in countries all over the world to ensure that their bridges are safe so factions within said countries can continue to destroy each other! I am totally suportive of American soldiers everywhere that they are doing their assigned duties but perhaps the Army Corps of Engineers and countless other employees of the US Government could be better employed stateside. Since there is nothing to fret over maybe we should just line up all the politicans and the other "important" federal and state people and have them drive first over all our "safe" bridges. With all the extra baggage they carry around, if the bridge doesn't crack or groan we could then let the ordinary people cross over the bridge. It's not just bridges either. We have children starving and no health care, veterans who are homeless and can't get health care, look at how many are still "homeless" after Katrina?
One can't help but wonder when this great country is going to take care of their own. It will take an uprising here to make our government pay attention to it's own countries needs. They always wait until there's tragedy before they even look at what's happening in their own backyard.
