More Interesting Stuff
The Progressive Group of Insurance Companies, the biggest seller of motorcycle insurance in the United States, conducted a nationwide on-line Survey recently.
Some information from that Survey:
Harley riders are 3 times more likely than those that ride sport bikes, to own clothing or artwork, displaying their brand (93% versus 30%).
95% of ALL riders acknowledge other bikers when riding.....37% by waving. BUT, Harley riders are 6 times more likely to ONLY acknowledge those on Harleys.
Sport bike riders are 4 times more likely than Harley riders to NOT acknowledge other riders at all.
All rider groups said that 'Freedom" was the number one reason to ride.
Only 6% say they ride 'for the speed', and in this category was <1% of Harley riders.
Harley riders are more likely than sport bike riders to ride 4 or more hours per week.
When asked what they like to do in their spare time: 70% of Harley riders, and 69% of sport bike riders, say it is to watch TV.
29% of sport bike riders are likely to work out at a gym; versus 23% of Harley riders.
86% of riders buy extras for their bikes, but Harley riders are TWICE as likely to spend MORE than $1000 a year at this.
Harley riders are also roughly twice as likely to add custom parts to enhance the look of the bike.
Sport bike riders are more likely to add performance items.
Women: 58% prefer to ride with their significant others.....but for MEN, 63% prefer riding with 'their friends'.

I only wave at a Harley. The only time I wave at at Gold wing is when they wave first.
I have surpassed the $1000 a year thing. There is always more chrome to put on....
Not true, I'm thinking about the 107" kit for my bagger instead of staying with the 88" I already have the stage 1 kit.
True, why do you think I got Takila a scooter to learn to ride, and then in spring trying to talk her into getting a Softail? So she ain't gotta ride on the back of mine!

I'll wave at anyone and ride with anyone. I own a Harley for two reasons, I love it and I can afford it. Hell, I can afford a couple more. lol

I'll ride with most anyone also. I won't wave or ride with the young kids on a 1200cc sport bike when they wear shorts, flipflops and no shirt, all they care to do is race down the street, pull wheelies and act like they are at a race track all the time. To me they are an accident waiting to happen. When I rode to Dallas last year there was quite a few that blasted past me at at least 120/140mph while I was riding a steady 80/85mph.

We don't get too much of that around here. Most of the sport bike riders are Navy guys looking for transportation that get's good gas mileage. All Navy personnel (80 % of our population) is required to attend the safety course to get a cycle on the base. We have some sort of ride here every weekend (charity) and we get alot of sport bikes that ride with us. Most of them are a good crowd, but there's always an idiot in the crowd somewhere.
